I usually play the game against my friends at lunch time. We don't play with items, should we be? I tried it once and I thought it was out there. It was so weird playing with items.
items are pretty good,
banana - mix up other persons screen
ghost - cant see next pieces
mushroom - piece drop really fast so you have to be quick and decide where to put them
star- gives you all lines
red shell - takes off 2 lines from the bottom
might be more i forget,
items kind of add a bit of surprise to the game and make you think faster than the traditional game.
I played Tetris DS online for the first time yesterday and realized that I'm pretty good at this game. The only time I'd ever lose is if I somehow managed to misdrop badly and they somehow managed to Tetris all the lines I added to them.
Soooo... If anybody thinks that they'd be a pretty good challenge, give me a PM so we can exchange friends codes and try to play against each other some time. I've never done the friends code thing though, so I might be kinda retarded about the process.

Love the "hold" function. Push mode is really cool. Puzzle mode helped me think of new ways to stack tetrominos.
