Because of the insanely low price of DSTT's, I'm considering buying one, but with all this talk of fake cards, where can I buy that would ensure a real card?

I think the ones from DX are real since they have the same Packaging as the website, but i could be wrong.

Your sig says you own a Cyclo... Why bother? If it turns out fake (which is always a possibility) then it'll just be a hassle.

They are real. New DSTT release last week. BUT they do not come with a CD nor a card reader. And you may have to wait a bit for delivery as xtreme is being bombarded with orders

A DSTT in particular? If not, then just convince him to get something else. That said, DSTTs are going so cheap that you don't have much to lose, really. And I'm not sure it the new ones from DX are fake... Maybe someone else can confirm.

Well, he just wants a flashcart in general for homebrew, and DSTT seems like the most inexpensive one for the job.

Just get the DSTT. I have the DSTT and the AceKard2 (both from dealextreme.com), and the DSTT is a great card for playing games/homebrew. While the AceKard has more features and has a better menu system, the DSTT has better build quality and runs every rom I've thrown at it. It is only about $12 shipped, what do you have to lose?

    12$? [IMG]

Seriously, I'm going to buy one too. After the third time my EZIV has erased the save file of a game after spending hours on it I've decided to buy another flashcart.

I don't want anything fancy, just want to play all the NDS games without having to cross my fingers every time I turn on my NDS.

Check the download section and look in the firmware section within. Look for the latest DSTT kernel (1.15)

    xD.
With the price of a DSTT flashcart these days, I don't get why people complain about fakes [IMG]. Sure there are risks of the future firmwares for the DSTT to ruin your DS lite but that can easily be avoided by not installing the later firmwares [IMG].
I remember paying $70 Canadian for my DSTT and 2gb microsd and looking at the current prices, I feel cheated but then again, I am using piracy myself xD so it's all fine and dandy.
12 dollars + extra for microsd isn't much, just go for it.. you'll save lots of money.

I got two from DX a few days ago and got shipped yesterday. They should be the real deal because in the item description the following was added...

"Genuine NDSTT.com (DSTT official site) product guaranteed: all shipments made after 9/5/2008 are hand checked to ensure they are genuine products as posted on the official DSTT website."

    The "fake-killer" isn't released yet.

You can still see if it's a fake by looking at the micro sd slot of the DSTT.

If you see a gold dot, or some pcb lines it's a fake.
