HARD MOD! It alleviates any risk, as you can make a backup at the hardware level on any firmware. The only way to block it is with a hardware revision.

But you can do the hardmod after a brick right (if a brick were to happen during the process)? I mean if it worked flawlessly the first time, then there would be no need for an actual hardmod, which would be ideal as I want to spend as little money as possible.

As long as you have a backup you can restore. If you try to downgrade from 10.6 without a backup and get a fail during the native firm, you're screwed. You cannot make a backup of anything at 9.3 or above via software.

Well, then. He can make a backup via software. Tutorials everywhere. If he messes up he can send it to someone like myself or others. We can then fix it for him. I always recommend that people install their own software mods to gain a better understanding of what they are doing to their machine.

I get nervous when following guides with a lot of steps. I feel like I'm going to fuck something up. I'll send my 3DS to you and pay you $100 for installing A9LH. Then I'll send a bit more money for return shipping. If your not interested in that, I'm willing to pay you $30 for walking me through it on Skype or Google Hangouts though.

Quick update:

You gotta keep in mind, even when you follow it flawlessly there is still a small chance of brick. It's a scary move to make, even if you're someone who knows what they are doing. Hell, I haven't even done it yet. I want to, but I'm just so scared of what would happen if I fucked up, I'd be pretty devastated. Though I do understand that even if i did mess up, there are people that can hardmod your 3DS and fix if for you. I'd just hate to have to deal with all of that as well, though it does give me some peace of mind as I still consider when I'm going to take the time to do this.

Without any user error the only thing that would cause a brick would have to be something like a faulty or worn out SD card that can't properly be read or somehow your battery runs out during flashing to sysnand which can totally be avoided by leaving it plugged in the whole time.

Having a bad SD card can be somewhat common since they tend to wear out if you keep copying a ton of files to them.

Aside from faulty hardware, not all entrypoints have an 100% success rate. That is one of the key advantages to switching to A9LH, is you get that guaranteed successful boot-rate.

Personally, my O3DSXL was on 10.3.x-U and the latest (at the time) version of safesysupdater didn't work. Neither did latest of regular sysupdater. But one random previous version of sysupdater worked just fine. There was no way to have known that ahead of time. It was very stubborn.
