If you have .cia files installed, DO NOT OPEN DATA MANAGEMENT IN SYSNAND

Not again. Not again. Please, not again.

On a whim, after yet ANOTHER failed attempt at installing Mario Golf - World Tour, I went into Settings, Data Management, Nintendo 3DS, Software on my SysNAND, thinking I might be able to delete the failed install from there, rather than booting into EmuNAND, deleting it, then having to reboot back into Gateway mode.

It didn't show anything under Software after about a minute of looking for files. So, I just backed out and booted back into Gateway mode.

My SD card is now empty. Not again. Dear infernal Loki, not again.

I JUST got everything working perfectly (except Mario Golf) two nights ago. I have installed 95% of my entire ROM collection as .cia files two times now, each time taking about two or three days, working on it for hours every single day, sometimes until 4AM.

It's all gone. I have to start over AGAIN.

Don't make the same mistake I did. Stay completely away from Data Management on your SysNAND.

I've never wanted to chuck my 3DS out of a window before, but, right now, that doesn't seem like a bad idea at all.

    Not again.

It's been mentioned you shouldn't access system settings at all on sysNand :(

Yeah, and I stupidly thought, "Well, as long as I don't check DSiWare, I should be good."

My brain is absolutely numb from considering that I have to start ALL THE WAY OVER for the third time in one week.

This time, I am not going to make the same mistakes. This time, I am going to save every .cia file that I create that works properly.

I feel like my house just burned down.

If nothing else, I will be able to serve the community better this time, if I remember to save every .rsf file that I use, and exactly which settings work for each game that I install. This is agonizing.

What you need to do is buddy is take your SD-Card out in the side of your 3DS and your GW card of course and format your systemnand in settings and set up your 3DS again as normal, this will separate your both nands from each other and you wont find that issue happening again and also no internet settings will set up in systemnand when you set them up in Emunand, nothing will copy itself again in systemnand, its a great method and good little handy trick to use!. I had the same happen to me but that sorted it out for good and is well worth doing for other little annoying things in systemnand that happens! Trust me on this m8, go and do it! :)

Edit: Just remember when you have formatted a fresh systemnand you need to run the blue GW card to set up the exploit again for gateway to work but that's no hassle. :)

yeah this information is not new, but nice for some people to have a reminder i guess :)
but yeah, i didn't think of all the people who now install their games as cia, would have to worry about that... ha
since if you don't, you just worry about updates/dlc that you have already bought and can redownload (at least as long as we have eshop access)
another con of installing games as cia :)

hey long time no quote! yes this is possible and works, but for somethings it's not good.
i never did it since i have a game bundled with my 3ds, and i was afraid i might lose it?
(maybe it would simply be redownloadable in the eshop even after a format - maybe i didn't do it since this was at the time when we didn't have eshop)

but, in my current position, i would not do it since i would not be able to decrypt eshop content using sd decrypter
NOTE: THIS ONLY WORKS WITH FILES ENCRYPTED BY YOUR OWN 3DS. NOTE: THIS CAN DECRYPT CONTENT PURCHASED ON EMUNAND, BUT ONLY IF YOU HAVEN'T SYSTEM FORMATTED YOUR SYSNAND AFTER CREATING THE EMUNAND*.
*It is possible, but outside the scope of these tools.

i'd like to know how it is possible, but, it might really be quite tricky... Relys ? (sorry, someone must have asked somewhere before but i could not find it...)

I don't want to break my ability to decrypt and dump my own files.

It wont, don't panic Decrypter by Void works fine afterwards, just the same as before, you put all your files in your sd card and slot it back in, it runs as normal. :)

Edit: I've been using it since formatting and it works just perfect like it always does, your systemnand is no different than before just make sure you set it back up the way it was, same region, name, and everything etc., it will be no different, it just separates the two nands from each other, that's all it does :)

sd decrypter (eshop stuff), or the one for actual 3ds games? because from the sd decryptor readme it doesn't seem so, at least, easily

you could always set up a second SD for decrypting your SD stuff that is still tied to the original nand and have your main SD separated

This is a fantastic idea. So, I would essentially just place a virgin SD card into my 3DS with the Launcher.dat, and install EmuNAND, update to 9.x, and use that card for decryption, without screwing up my ability to have the best of both?

yeah so format sysnand so it gets its new ID, then format emunand on a new SD and update as normal, this one will be tied to the new ID and the original main one will be separated

That, you did. I got overconfident once everything was just the way I liked it.

If my suffering helps another person to avoid making the same mistake, at least there's SOMETHING good that came out of this.
