......then couldn't Nintendo make a kind of "Wii shortcut" apps for Wii U for each Wii title that contains such modified modules based on the originals, and would load those instead of those from disc, allowing immediate playback and Gamepad support for those games that have Classic controller support? I mean, would that be something even possible?

Changing the IOS is possible.

Here's my thoughts about the GP support for Wii eshop titles:
1. An update is released so the Game Pad can be recognized as a Wiimote+Classic Controller. Not likely, since it will allow GP support for old Wii Games as well.
2. Mysterious techniques are used to recognize the GamePad. Maybe running the game in WiiU mode?

A few thought on this... It's 2015 and Wii was discontinued in 2013. How relevant is it still to update support for backwards compatibility on Wii U? Just like subsequent PS3 models since launch had less and less backwards compatibility options as it was no longer relevant, ultimately leading to a PS3 without backwards compatibility. This is much akin to the Wii Family Edition and Wii mini, both which removed GameCube support. I'm guessing that Wii eShop titles just lay the groundwork for a Wii U without backwards compatibility. Even though for the Wii U it's mostly software (as opposed to hardware components in the PS3), it's still an aspect Nintendo would need to keep maintaining and updating, and it's currently the only way for any kind of homebrew to exist on the Wii U. That's two reasons Nintendo would want to get rid of backwards compatibility on Wii U: to reduce costs (R&D and maintenance) and to lessen the likelihood of homebrew on Wii U.

So don't get any happy thoughts. Just like Wii mini was released without online support, much to the hate of critics, ultimately leading to the fact Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection was discontinued in its entirety, I believe Wii eShop titles on Wii U are just the first step going towards a Wii U without backwards compatibility.

Wii titles on eshop still need the Wii mode to run. For Super Mario Galaxy 2, your choice of save data miis come from the vWii Mii channel, not the Wii U mii maker.
The save data for Eshop SMG2 is created on vWii NAND.

Of course they do, but my point is that vWii in general would be hidden from view and inaccessible. I'm sure the Wii eShop titles will be enhanced in the future such that they run 99% inside the Wii U OS.

But at that point Nintendo will basically be making HD remakes of all eShop Wii games (that benefit from the Wii U's extra power/graphics engines), and we all know THAT wont happen :glare:

That must be rough. Productive I'm sure but hard to balance with daily life

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.
