If I have Nintendo format HDD can I use on a friends Wii U?

    Unfortunately, no. The format uses a key that is unique to the console that it was formatted on. It sucks, yes, but it's Nintendo's answer to piracy I suppose

    The wii u doesn't have a hard drive. It's all flash memory.

    You can use up to 2 external hard drives of up to 2TB each

    Sure, if you can figure out the per-console key that's been assigned to your drive and then write a driver for the proprietary WFS filesystem that it uses
