that was some good times. i remember that one, foez you killed him.

but this old *someone scamming for homebrew* thread has been done many times. we get it some people sell the secrets. hell, i've even thought of starting a site selling my jobs secrets. if people want to pay for info, they should go right ahead. anyone with any type of computer/web experience would know to go to google right away and you can find answers.

if you can't figure it out for yourself, then pay someone to learn. i don't think these scammers say the stuff is theirs, if they do that would be scummy.

for the best example i can cite...college. you pay for info, you can go get that info for free, even become an apprentice and learn a trade for free. but colleges charge money for it (and quite a LARGE amount too) and no one complains they are selling info.

Actually Im not so much aboard with that statement. They dont really sell information, hell, most of the time they say to do your own research.
What they sell however, is their knowledge to explain it to you so you understand it fully, tell you what you are doing wrong and what you can do to improve etc.

... Of course, there are teachers who has no buisness "teaching", but thats a different story.

People doing that should at least provide a message saying that all the stuff they have is available for free, and that the payment is just for their guide which will help you install those free things. Then again, that would probably decrease sales. Also, why is it that most of the scam sites that I have seen have the exact same layout?

Because as you keep reading, you are going to discover how to unlock your OWN Wii console without breaking the bank! In fact you could even get the files to unlock your Wii right over the internet. Shoot, if you scroll down this page the files are al free. I didn't create them so you don't have to buy them here or anywhere else.

So he does mention it, but I still think charging to "Help" you mod your Wii is pretty low considering how easy it is with Modmii.

Also, he misspelled "All" in that sentence.

I got a friend who wants me to mod his wii . I told him I can do it , but he will need an sd card and an external drive for his back ups . I told him I would charge him $30 bucks ( my time is worth something I think , because when he runs into a problem he will be calling me ) But I said if you wanna do it yourself go to gbatemp.net and download modmii , because thats what I'm gonna use on your wii , and the prog isnt that hard to use , all you gonna do is answer some questions and follow directions. Am I in the wrong for that ? on a side note , I miss Tehskeen .... thats where I use to go for all info prior to here , I still remember when the TP hack came out , and I got homebrew ( granted I didnt do anything special but follow directions , I felt like I accomplished something , and thats why suggest to my friend that he do it himself)

Well, he does say there are other video tutorials online, but that "they're all pixellated garbage taken with a mobile phone camera while his tutorials are professionally shot in crystal clear 720p" and blah de blah. So yeah. And he does tell you all the files you need are available for free. The title should be "idiots paying for tutorials".

Modding someone's game console is a bit like fixing someones pc problems. You do it for free because you like to do it.
There are downsides to it as well. How will you proceed if you accidentaly bricked someones console?
And if you spend many valuable hours of your time to remove a virus in someones computer, knowing he will have a new one in a week because he ignores your instructions,
you suddenly feel like you shouldn't do it for free anymore. I can't find someone to do my garden for free either, altough there are people who like gardening?
Ok, before you start flaming me and telling me modmii is perfectly safe, think about the fact that by modding someones wii, you open the gate to the place where he can easily
brick his wii himself. Who do you think will get credit for it? Why do you think in days of xbox 1 modding, shops preferred to install a modchip instead of doing a softmod? Because
with a modchip, if things got fubarred, you could recover yourself with a simple disc in the drive.
Be aware that the one thing you tell them absolutely not to do, they will try.
But it's a fact you should inform people they can mod their wii themself for free. If I paint my house, it's free as well.
If I ask someone professional to do it, he will charge me as well. What's the difference?

Well the difference is , as far as modding the wii goes ......Its the equvilant of making xflak paint the house while you collect all the money. The paint wasnt free , sure you may have found a stash someone was giving away , but just because they gave it to you doesnt make it free . They invested time effort and maybe even money in giving you that paint.

I lol'd.

In any case, what was his R.R.O.D fix anyways? I'm not entirely sure how there could be a fix for the processor *physically cooking* the memory chips that were located way too close to it in the original 360 design.

R.R.O.D happens because the solder cant handle the heat and therefore the contact between the motherboard and CPU gets bad.
In some cases this can be fixed by replacing the clips holding the cpu down. In other cases it can be fixed by gently heating the area just enough for the solder to get a bit lose, and press the CPU down.

... And in other cases the xbox is toast. Its a gamble when trying to fix RROD

It's a nice metaphore, but I don't think I should paint your house for free because someone gave me some paint for free.
I do agree in passing some of my earnings to the guy who delivered me the paint. (Even if it was free in the first place.)
XFlak painting my house would be equivalent to Xflak modding the wii and me collecting for it.. (I hope his travel expenses are free as well. :D )
Some buissines use guys like that. I believe they call them pimps in English. (not Scammers) (English isn't my native language..)

I have a confession, before christmas 2 years ago, I was selling softmod guides on ebay along with all files for £30 and all I done was point them to a mediafire link with a guide that I was hosting on a private torrent site for free, I was really strapped for cash and it paid for my sons Christmas, I havent done it since and now when I mod peoples consoles I charge £10, £5 for the sd card, £5 for my time, I dont charge for the files themselves

Pretty agreed here. It's true, while modding is free, the "responsability" taken if anything goes wrong, will fall under the guy "fixing the problem, even for free". so I charge "my efforts" but not "the mods itself", after all if I brick it, my wii's on the line xD.

That is a slightly incorrect statement. The solder can handle the heat perfectly fine, the issue is that lead free solder does not flex like the leaded solder does so when the board and chip heat up and flexes it cause the solder balls to become detached from the solder pad.
