i use visual studio. the compatibility with other languages makes it awesome. C++ is old stuff, move on to c# and oracle.

EDIT: oh wait are you programing embedded systems or computer software?

Both. I like C++ more because I think I'll get more use out of it. Especially stuff like homebrew.
Oh, and I'm kind of runny linux right now. And from what I hear, Mono isn't that great.

yeah C/C++ is a nice basic little language. mono's cool..compatible with a lotta dot net stuff.

though with embedded systems you'll be using a lot more c.

i dunno if mono has this but C# on visual studio suggests/completes syntax as you type.

in the end it's going to depend on what company you're working for cuz each one uses their own standards and whatnot.
