Would it be possible to make an app that boots the game inserted into the wii drive?
And if no game is inserted boots to the system menu?
This would be incredibly useful, especially as a preloader installed file.
    Thanks greatly.

I believe there is a hack available for preloader 0.29 that already does that. I can't rmemeber if I ever got it to work, but I think it's there. Check the preloader hacks page at wiibrew.org

The only one I see is press right on the controller to autoboot a game, but it would be better "boot DVD, boot to sys menu if unavailable"

Use the Autoboot Game hack or Disc Autostart hack. It looks like it's only possible on SM 4.0 E and U. If you are earlier than that, you can't do it with preloader.

    Install GeckoOS into Preloader.

Then configure it so that the file will get autobooted everytime the Wii gets turned on.

You will have to manually press the A button on either a Wiimote or Gamecube controller to make GeckoOS launch the game.

It should be extremely easy for someone to create a program to do that, but it seems that everyone is just too lazy to do it.

You could easily mod SoftChip to do that. It is already able to autoboot and it is able to detect if a disc is inserted. And Since you can configure which IOS to use, it would work for all people. The problem is that the latest cIOS seems always to return that no disc is inserted. You can verify this by loading a game with SoftChip, if it says SOMEWHERE between all other stuff, "Please insert disc", the check if a disc is inserted failed and it told the dvd drive to wait until a disc is inserted. If this check does not work, the whole idea "play disc IF a disc is inserted" would not work.

Lol, it was the first real open source loader for wii*:
    http://code.google.com/p/wii-softchip/source/checkout

*Before there was Gecko OS, but the official source of it contained an infinite loop, and Gamma was "just" a mod of Gecko OS, while SoftChip was written from scratch and the source of every revision is public available.
