Ohai iDevice section of the 'temp ^^
I want to update to the newest firmware.
(after the jailbreak is out for windows, untethered that is)
Logically, I would sync before, and install new firmware, sync again. [IMG] everything would be there.
    Except jailbroken stuff...
So, I would jailbreak it. And err, how would I keep my old jailbroken apps?
I got this idea to save the files on my computer, then, after the jailbreak copy them back to the iPod, to there where they belong
But I've got this feeling that that won't work [IMG]

Any idea on how to keep my jb apps?
    Including pirated apps *shhh*

Since you have pirated apps, it means you have [Redacted]. When you install that, it automatically installs appsync. Appsync syncs your cracked apps with itunes. Just sync your device to itunes. When you rejailbreak your device (and install [Redacted] + appsync) then sync, your pirated apps should transfer. The Cydia apps I'm not too sure. I used to make a backup of them in Rock, but since it doesn't really work right now...

There is a program called AptBackup which does the same thing as the Rock backup but I tried it and it failed to launch on my iPod3G with iOS4.0

^ I launched it on a device (forgot which one lol) but it did nothing. Even after reinstalling it. So I had to manually reinstall everything.

Just make sure that after you upgrade, rejailbreak and get [Redacted]/AppSync again. Then your pirated apps can sync properly. Of course, you should wait until [Redacted] and AppSync are updated for the newer firmware after it gets jailbroken.

For Cydia apps, I just do it manually. Before I restore/upgrade, I go into Manage - Packages and write down the names of all the things listed there in a Notepad file. After upgrading and jailbreaking, I go through the list and manually re-install each one, starting with the most important or ones that require reboots (like afc2add or Winterboard or SBSettings). There are programs that are designed to help automate this, but I don't think they work all that well.

Saurik has bought RockYourPhone and is working on implementing the Rock backup utility along with various other features into Cydia.

I just noticed that you can install more then one app in Cydia at a time, like in Rock. You have to queue the package that you want to install, get more and do the same thing, and just press install with the last one.
Although Cydia tends to crash before I get to the installing step...
