MTV still exists? They don't even own Beavis & Butt-Head anymore they should be taken off the air.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

What did I just read?

On January 10, 2014, Mike Judge announced that, while he is busy working on Silicon Valley, there is a chance of his pitching Beavis and Butt-Head to another network and that he would not mind making more episodes.[50] While giving an interview to Howard Stern on May 6, 2014, Judge mentioned that the show's ratings on MTV were second only to Jersey Shore, but the show did not fit MTV's target demographic of young women, which is why the revived series has not been brought back on MTV. He also said that MTV was close to selling it to another network, but it became "lost in deal stuff".[51](37m)

Their target demographic is young women? I remember when they showed Headbanger's Ball and played heavy metal. WTF happened.

MTV Europe back in the early 90s was awesome especially

Most Wanted and X-Ray Vision both presented by the crazy fucker Ray Cokes.

Headbangers Ball, and RockBlock both presented by Vanessa Warwick.

Plus any MTV show with Terry Christian or the American guy Kurt (can't remember his surname lol) was worth a watch.

I haven't actually watched Beavis & Butt-Head since the 90s but it was the only reason I might have tuned into MTV, since they sure as hell don't show stuff like Headbangers Ball anymore (metal is not as good as it was in the 90's anyway IMO) That makes sense that it's still under Viacom otherwise Mike Judge probably wouldn't be allowed to show it to a competitor.

Nothing against young women but I just never pictured hearing they're targeted young women. I mean you can make another channel for that. MTV was good back in the day but hasn't been for a long time.

Afaik, the first music video was in the 70s. I think MTV came out in 81. The first video I think was by Mike Nesmith of the monkees. His mother created whiteout, so he's quite wealthy. This is all based on memory.

Yeah I was mistaken. Video killed the radio star was the first ever music video shown on MTV, but not ever. I'm actually reading from Google results that Bohemian Rhapsody was the first ever?

I dunno. My mom just said I was mistaken about Nesmith. They made videos for a while but they weren't broadcast. The Beatles for example had one for penny lane. I remember it. They're on horses in it.

What I'm thinking of is popclips the first music video tv show. It was created by Nesmith.

I think PopClips was the predecesser to MTV and was in the late 70's up to 1980 and MTV started in 81. Bohemian Rhapsody happened in 1975 though, and before that I guess Tony Bennett.

They've had music videos for a long time. Popclips was the first music video show like MTV. Remember there weren't reruns a while back so shows might have 30+ episodes a season. Now 10 is the norm.
