Gaming I tried to transfer files from a 8GB microSD to a 32GB microSD card but my files got corrupted, help

Basically i was trying to transfer files to a larger microSD so that i could play more games but the first time i did this, FBI, HB.. broke so i tried formatting the microSD, later my NDS wouldn't even boot with that microSD so i re-did the tranfer like 3 times then it finally worked but it made me boot to rosalina's setup instead of the normal menu, i clicked start and it took me there, everything was working but when i checked on HB if everything was normal i saw that all the files on the SD were corrupted, i also checked on FBI same thing, all the files were renamed to symbols except some directories. I have no idea what to do since i tried everything.

Apply quadruple format to the questionable micro-SD. Try a different SD reader/writer on your computer if this happens with another SD as well.

Do yourself a favor and run a full test with H2testw or F3 (don't skip the test – I know it takes long and is boring). Better don't trust an SD that did not pass the full write/read test. Your card could be defective/dying/fake.

Keep the data from the old SD save on your computer.

Well, if you allow me post my 5cents opinion.
For NDS I presume you are talking about a ds phat or ds lite?
I'm not sure how things are now, but I remember reading something about ds's problems dealing with
large sd cards capacity, maybe 32GB is too much.
You said you have 2 more sd cards besides this falty one, what are their sizes?

I also recommend following KleinesSinchen's advice.
Try a differente SD reader. Be carefull to format to Fat32

One quick tip you may try to get a general idea of SD's health is:
Put some big files such videos, photos on it, to get as close as 32GB as possible
and try to play/open them on pc. if everything works fine SD the chances are it's OK.

Some fake sd cards/thumbdrives are modified to allow the "copy" but the faulty card
turn the files corrupted.


And never forget to backup everything before trying any of the suggestions.

Have you tried to put some large files as I asked you to do?
Based on your result I think putting until about 1.5GB will work.
So put some files one each time and test on PC
-one close to 2GB and test
-delete it and put other larger than 2GB and test again.

Must be an old chip. It has been a while since the 2GB real size and the very slow write/read speeds were common. Nowadays the cheapest and most common chips are probably 16GB or 32GB and those are faked to 128GB+

Of course one can do experiments with fake SDs and watch what happens to the data when filling it beyond the real capacity. That is precisely what h2testw and F3 do automatically.

Please never consider actually using a fake flash memory for important stuff. Creating a partition a little smaller than the real capacity should prevent the fake thing from looping and overwriting. But there is no guarantee it will work. If I find such a thing, I'll keep it as an oddity. It has no practical use.

As I suspected, because of the result of that program I think that some sector was damaged and it became defective, it could be a slight or very serious damage, if it's very serious it will not let you do anything like formatting, in the worst case it will enter as write-protected , the truth is that I do not think you can do anything to repair it.

also it appears that the SD did not corrupt the files HW inserted in there, i believe there is still hope
