Fuck it. How about I drop a good amount of money on the Alienware 17?

It has
-7th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-7700HQ (Quad-Core, 6MB Cache, up to 3.8GHz w/ Turbo Boost)
-NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1070 with 8GB GDDR5
-17.3 inch FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS Anti-Glare 300-nits Display with Tobii IR Eye-tracking
-16GB DDR4 at 2400MHz (2x8GB)
-(Dual Bay Drives) 128GB M.2 SATA 6Gb/s SSD (Boot) + 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s (Storage)
A GTX1070 for a 1080p screen is too much, you might as well go for a 1080 :grog:

Well I can afford this. Can I customize Alienware specs for future stuff? Also, does the color HAVE to be purple of the Alienware 17 R4? Or is it a "light" that can you change?

I can afford this. Do I buy? I want to be able to be able to upgrade it in the near future, in case it gets outdated.

If you're planning to splurge check out custom vendors like xoticpc, ibuypower who offer more customization for branded laptops.

But honestly, you should think of a GTX1060 laptop are they've got the price-performance on the above mentioned custom vendor laptops

Go and check out the sites and you'll know
Thanks man! I splurged on it. Are they good specs though? And is it upgradeable?

"Alienware Graphics Amplifier support: Enables future-proofing of upgradeable full length, dual-wide graphics and additional 4-port USB 3.0 hub for added peripherals. We’ve added a PCIe x4 Gen 3 connection with dedicated throughput for connectivity that’s superior even to a Thunderbolt."

Is it this?

You can use that, and also generally good gaming laptops use an mxm interface for their GPUs so like after 5 years you could potentially swap out the 1070 for a better gfx card.

This was true 10 years ago.

I'd like to disagree on that.
The lappy I bought (almost 10 years ago) has never even overheated once.
And I did a LOT of gaming on it.
Hell even now I occasionally play Bioshock Infinite on it.

I even got an old IBM T20 which runs Win9x games properly ;p

I do agree on the fact that cheap laptops are horrible for running games on.
You need at least a top of the line model to decently run games.

So how about the one I just bought?

-7th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-7700HQ (Quad-Core, 6MB Cache, up to 3.8GHz w/ Turbo Boost)
-
-Windows 10 Home 64bit English
-NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1070 with 8GB GDDR5
-17.3 inch FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS Anti-Glare 300-nits Display with Tobii IR Eye-tracking
-16GB DDR4 at 2400MHz (2x8GB)
-128GB M.2 SATA 6Gb/s SSD (Boot) + 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s (Storage)
555-BDFG
-Killer 1435 802.11ac 2x2 WiFi and Bluetooth 4.1

If you got an Alienware then first congratz on paying premium for overpriced hardware.
But you're able to game with it just fine.
Don't worry about it.
However, don't expect the same performance as a desktop PC.

Also, I suggest investing in a laptop cooler, they won't do you any harm.

Thanks man!

So it's a bad buy? It is top notch, though, in terms of specs, (laptop/desktop taken out of the equation) yeah?

It's a great laptop. Will easily last you 5 years performance wise. I would've opted for a 256GB SSD bootdrive tho.
I have 128 in my desktop and it's a bit less.
