You have a valid Nand dump from 9.2 right? Then no unless you want to use your N3DS for a bit before downgrading.

You can flash your Nand dump at any point if you want to update to 10.5 through recovery go ahead im just saying it doesnt matter when you do it.

Safe mode update to 10.5, get a hardmod and restore the nand.bin he has?

Try to boot directly into a gamecard by booting holding a+b+y+x+r. If that works you could still save your 3ds without updating with cubic ninja or ocarina of time.

Update your 3ds with safe mode get a hardmod and restore your nand.bin.
