i have another 3DS with 7.1.0-16U
i format the SD card completely
i make the kids play with it , and i tuned off the wireless , apparently i didn't the wireless sitting
so i guess someone switch it on for some times, because today i switch it on and there is a message for new update available
so, i turned off the 3DS and got the SD card to see other files
when i gave the 3DS to the kids, they didn't play any 3ds or DS game , only the supercard with some games in it

this was inside the 3DS Folder in SD card

the path is like this :
Nintendo 3DS\0736d30a36e43a22eb8873f49daa4120\78b100b647074086534130380002544d\extdata\00000000\0000008f\00000000

i don't know if this update "8.0.0-18" or "7.2.0-17"

this was the only files in there

Last I checked system updates are stored in system memory. (the built-in nand). If you end up getting update prompts, a system format is the only thing that will get rid of that.
oh
thanks for that
but why they asking me to turn on wifi to make the format ?

I did a system format after a 6.1 update (which I did to fix a bad 8.0 update which failed to update correctly) and was never prompted to connect wifi. Are you doing the system format from the settings menu?
the first time was format from my PC
didn't try to format it from my 3DS

Security. They use any excuse possible to get you to update now.

Before 7.0 you could reformat without connecting to the internet but they wisened up.
What lol you need to update to format the system lmao, thats pathetic, but It will actually make getting a second hand older FW 3ds harder as most shops will format a 3ds if they buy it in second hand.....but they would have to be on 7.x for it to matter, I'm surprised companies haven't took on some MS style "if you want to do anything at all you have to update" stance.......but it's getting closer and closer with that rubbish

Well the OP had system 7.2 and Smealum's homebrew exploit is said to work on 7.2 with a high chance with it working on 8.0. In a few days he'll probably confirm that it still works on 8.0. I'd say in this instance the OP should just let it update. :P

Exactly all they say nowadays is that its improvements to the user experience no new features just security updates I think i'll just buy Mt card & use emunand for e shop titles.

Interesting. I wonder why it needed to connect to the internet in the first place, then. Did you also get rid of the update prompt?
i had to connect to to the internet in order to format
but they the device it self didn't update
is that because i format the SD Card from the PC ? that doesn't make sense
because according to Apache Thunder
the update inside the 3DS itself
when i was going to format , several messages appears , non of which told me i must update the systemhttp://gbatemp.net/members/apache-thunder.105648/

Yes, that's why I'm a bit baffled why it needed to connect to the internet in the first place, if it doesn't do anything with it in the end.
