Hacking Hardware Project I really need Tempers help with my Motorcycle Tachometer.

Hello fellow tempers, I need your help, I am not so good with binary nor Hex system, I am having a problem with my motorcycle's odometer.
My motorcycle uses a proprietary protocol for ODB and the tachometer values can not be saved, or written. I have directly access to the EEPROM where the values are stored. but the values have a checksum evading my short knowledge.

The tachometer, stores values for:

• Odometer value on Km
• Odometer value on miles:
• Trip counter on Km
• Trip counter on miles
• Oil Service Status led indicator (I don't know if is stored on the EEPROM or turn on the lamp if OIL Service Count is greater than 6 000 Km)
• Oil Service count on Km
• Oil Service count on miles

So far I has been able to look in to several dumps of the EEPROM, where de values are stored but there is some type of checksum where is a value is changed and the checksum do not ALL VALUES get cleared.

Can any body give me a way to generate any number on the EEPROM and be able to upload too chip working for the tachometer?

Here are some examples of dumps, The decimal numbers are the ones shown on the tachometer when I took the EEPROM dump Also I think I dumped on the wrong endian format because by example the numbers 081814051132 (odometer km+miles) are stored as 18 14 32 08 05 11 04 32 I really don't understand too much. but what catched my eye was the decimal numbers (the one shown on the thachometer LCD) are stored as the equivalent Hex Value.

Wow . . . I’m at a lost for words. I hate to break it to you, but I don’t know anything about motorcycles, and I wish someone else here does, but considering no one has replied yet . . . Yikes-

But for you, my friend, I won’t give up hoping, motorcycles are cool and so are you and you deserve to have a functionally great bike. I will wish you till the end the best of luck to get that fixed and once you do we will all celebrate (I think)

I'm a bit of a mechanic, and while bikes aren't my specialty, diesel VWs are! On diesel VWs like mine, there's a proprietary OBDII connection for info like that, though there's a workaround via a generic cable and freeware application - there might be something of the sort for your bike?

The few bikes I've worked on have all had completely analog instruments, so I'm a bit shocked to see such complexity in the tach, speedo and odometer.. wouldn't happen to be a BMW Motorrad, would it?
