To get a new TV for our living room. It needs to be a 52" plasma. What are some qualities that I should look for in a TV?

Also, something I really need help on is picking out a soundsystem. I have no clue about it at all.

Try Walmart ?

You need to specify your budget...TV's can vary a lot in price, it all depends on the features and make etc.

LG actually make most of the screens nowadays...they even make then for other manufacturers! (Who just stick their brand name on.)

If size is all that matters then just go for it, but you might be better off going for a 42" or 50" inch set for a better brand or feature set.

Anyway you need to say how much you wanna spend!!!

My grandmother recently purchased a 50" in or so HDTV.

It's a Samsung model and it looks great.
Though, some of the colors are "un-natural looking."

I assure you, Samsungs sell more TV's in my town and I've yet to see a shitty Samsung.

But, anything for 4000 dollars...hell yes, it's going to fucking be insane.

If you mount your TV and don't let him touch your Wii Remote, the kid can't bother it.

according to this, LCDs are much more durable than plasmas. i must agree based on my own personal experiences with each type of tv. also, plasmas are heavier, use more power, and produce more heat than LCDs.

I'd definitely recommend an LCD set over plasma.

Seconded.

I recommend a Sony BRAVIA XBR 40"+ 1080p. It costs around $3000. (We bought it for $2800)

It is friggin' amazing for playing video games. Demonstrated by my brother's PS3.

As for a Sound System, get Surround Sound...

Anyways, LCD > Plasma.
