I'm taking Honors U.S. History this year, and I have to do a summer assignment and study a few chapters. My problem is that when I read over a chapter, I can't recall anything that I just read. History is just soooooooooo boring. Any tips on studying U.S. History?

Problem is concentration i'm guessing. I can't even read something in a book without thinking about something else. While reading on a PC (i.e. forums) my concentration is fully there. Try finding related stuff on the net, and reading that before the books.

It probably won't work with everyone, but hey it's worth a shot.

Or you could try studying it with someone! Having someone to talk about it helps you to concentrate, but try to get someone you wouldn't end up messing around with or you'll waste all your time playing lol.

For most people, jotting down notes as you go seems to help a lot with the retention issue. Making a mental timeline (or drawing one out) may help as well. Another benefit of this is you have something to study in the future (in the case of a potential test) without needing to go back to the boring text book.

You need to find something cool about that the period. If you think Honors is boring, try taking the AP equivalent. You have to memorize the events so you can write timed essays about them. How do people not like History. It's so awesome.

I don't know how your class works, but with mine my teachers always gave me study guides on what to look for and then discuss. So, group work was recommended to discuss the topics. This helps so even if you didn't pick something up, someone else might have and can give a clear explanation about what going on.

don't study. I never once study for a class and always passed with an A. Whenever a test came up for a class people used to freak out and thats when they forgot everything. Cause i never studied i didn't have to worry about forgetting

so all i did in class was sleep. Expect in Anatomy, a 20 someodd year old female teacher that was hot as all hell kinda woke me up in the morning. that and remembering that when Halloween came she dressed up like Cat women.

So Sleep and don't study. Wing it

Try to make connections while studying. Some events cause other events to happen in history. Try to remember their order. Write down the important stuff. It depends on your history book too. My history book last semester was so random. It was jumping from one topic to another, making it really confusing to understand. Chronology is very important. IF you know which things happen before/after which, you'll understand much better.

Will you give me mouth to mouth oxygen if my throat closes?
  • K3N1 @ K3N1:
Nah the air can do that
  • K3N1 @ K3N1:
Ask @x65943 he's trained for that stuff
  • JuanMena @ JuanMena:
Kissing random dudes choking in celery? Really? Need to study for that?
  • K3N1 @ K3N1:
    Yes it requires a degree

I could also yank out the rest of my teeth but theirs professionals for that
  • x65943 @ x65943:
If your throat closes, putting oxygen in your mouth will not solve anything - as you will be introducing oxygen prior to the area of obstruction
  • JuanMena @ JuanMena:
    Just kiss me Kyle.
  • x65943 @ x65943:
You either need to be intubated to bypass obstruction or create a stoma inferior to the the area of obstruction to survive
  • x65943 @ x65943:
"Just kiss me Kyle." And I thought all the godreborn gay stuff was a smear campaign

Seems like, your PSU was waiting for a partner.
  • JuanMena @ JuanMena:
    Keep them both
separated or you'll have more PSUs each year.
