Just be forewarned that when you downgrade to 9.2, OoTHax won't work until you change the payload on the card. You'll need to run BrowserHax at least once in order to run the exploit installer again. I recommend installing MenuHax as well, so that you don't need to keep OoT on hand to boot into CFW.

As for choice of CFW, I would go with Luma3DS. Ignore all of the stuff about A9LH, as that's a hack that isn't for beginners. You can load it from HBL via MenuHax/OoTHax.

I don't think I'll be getting a CFW. I don'the know this stuff very well and I'm too afraid I'll screw up and brick my 3DS. I don't have a lot of money and can't afford to buy a new one. I'll just stick with regular firmware and OoThax. If someone makes a full slow step-by-step video tutorial on the New 3DS then I would. If anybody reading this could for me that would be greatly appreciated.

New 3DS XL user here who used OoThax to get homebrew. If you follow everything correctly, you should be fine. AT WORST, you'll get a soft brick (3DS loading with an error message). If that ever happens, you just hold down a certain set of buttons to update it to normal.

I was unable to downgrade for the first bunch of times, but formatting fixed it. To back up your NAND (can't really explain it), use Decrypy9 or EmuNAND9 before you format so you have a copy to restore.

I would highly recommend following the Plailect wiki, especially when you have OoThax on your hand.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to send me a private message and I'll guide you through the whole process: I've helped several people through private messaging by now!

All you have to do is follow Steps 2 and 3 of this guide. Refer to Step 1 to load BrowserHax only after sucessfully downgrading in Step 2. Ignore Steps 4 and 5, as they pertain to a hack that shouldn't be installed by a total novice.

I agree about using the Plailect wiki. I was on stock o3ds running 10.7 until this past weekend and knew very little about this whole scene. As long as you can take your time and follow directions VERY carefully, you won't have any problems. It took me a couple days of an hour here and there to get it going, but I went from stock -> OoThax -> Luma CFW and A9LH. It's a very detailed guide, but that's just so they can avoid any issues.

Okay, thank you for offering to help me. I'll be asking a lot of questions probably.

I download all my games onto my 3DS. (I have a 32gb MicroSD card) Will I be okay if I don't format? I know you can re-download your games back, but I don't want other things to be deleted. And if I downgrade to 9.2 will my downloaded games be gone? With all the stuff I have will I be okay downgrading?

Unfortunately, you will need to move many files back and forth on your SD card. That's actually why the process takes about 3-5 hours to complete: It's not the steps that take forever, but rather the file transferring.

Could always use that as an excuse to get or use another SD card; do the hack on a separate one to cut down on backup times (no need to make backups of data if it's already on another one). When I installed A9LH ages ago, I used a different card than my main one to cut out a lot of time. Granted, I still had to copy and move some files on and off of it, but nowhere near as much as if I had used my main one.

And here I go:
I was a total noob with 3ds(I had one when OoT released, but sold after walkthrough cuz there was nothing interesting for me on the system), and installed the A9LH on the day of n3DS Xl purchase using Plailect's guide.
Don't be afraid, just double-check important parts of the guide (Plailect even tells you to do so, lol).
And join the A9LH Master Race.

UPD: Feel free to contact me or other helpful peeps though DM.
Peace.
