Just buy an AceKard 2i. It's better than your R4 (I guarantee it will run more games, and far better than that damn thing) and it works fine with any SD or SDHC card. Plus, it's cheaper than a new SD card.

Seriously, just don't get rid of that 8 GB card. It's not the SD, it's the cart that sucks.
