Ok I'd have to say like everything I endeavor to do, Skateboarding is something I've wanted to do since I was in my early teens. I have to questions...1)how long did it take some of you to learn how to plainly ride a skateboard (just going from point A to B no tricks) and 2)Since Imma novice would it be smart to get a cool board I saw from Target instead of starting with some $100+ custom one.

The things that make the wheels roll. Pre-installed ones are usually crappy, so you will have to kick more and get tired and annoyed faster to be able to roll.

Replacing them is easy, with one of these (They are pretty cheap in skateboard shops).

Oh alright. That's cool. I'm hoping that I get enough birthday money to get one. Though I doubt it, but I can use my pay check to pick up the rest.

I am an active skater. I started when I was like ten and I think it took me a few days to learn how to ride correctly on it. I practiced this in my street. After that I started going to my skatepark and there I learned how to ollie in like two weeks. But for some people it just takes longer. It took one of my friends more than a year to learn how to ollie and now he´s pretty good.

Good bearings are important. The deck isn´t that important if you don´t really do any tricks. Once you can ollie you should start looking into getting a professional deck.

Never get a $5, Walmart board. Unless, you want this.

Ok. That ebay store has a lot of cool decks...I really expect it to take longer to just ride a skateboard. I tired to ride the one I found at target and almost broke my ass. lol

Yeah, I also think it is gonna take you longer, but that´s because you are most likely taller than I was when I was ten and the taller you are the harder it gets to divide your weight in order not to fall. But don´t let that get you down. Skating is all about fun and not about how good you are.

This is also a good shop: http://stores.ebay.com/WSTWO-Cheap-Skateboards

If I lived in the USA I would order there. Here in the Netherlands only the deck itself (without trucks, wheels bearings) already costs 100 dollars. [IMG]
