PS1/2 I got a PS3

So a couple days ago, I bought myself a new Sony 50" Hi-Def SXRD TV, which, by the way, is totally awesome in quality, performance, and features -- And I managed to bargain them down $700 in price

I went to my wife and said 'We have a good TV, now we need to get a Hi-Def player to go with it!"

So went on the debate: XBox 360 or PS3. Considering the massive failure rate of the 360 and only HD-DVD support, I decided to go the other way with Sony because a) Blu-Ray holds much more for better quality, and b) the PS3, at $529 Canadian, is the cheapest Blu-Ray player. Plus, there's a promo going on that if you buy a Blu-Ray player, you get 5 free BD movies. Schweet deal!

After selling my PSP, I decided to sell my PS2, so my mom bought it off me for my little brother (modded + 120 games, can't go wrong

), and I bought the PS3 yesterday as well as component cables, because the component cables were only $24.99, and the HDMI cable was $119.99. No freakin' way!

The only downside is that games are so expensive. At $69.99 a pop, it turns me off, but I just got a sweet deal for 8 great new PS3 games for 250 bucks, plus 2 Blu-Ray movies (300 and Casino Royale) for 40 bucks total.

I've now entered into the world of High-Definition with a great entertainment set

Now it's only a matter of time before blu-ray recordable discs drop in price, and PS3 mods are available

You deserve a medal for admitting you actually bought the PS3. You may have been better waiting to see how the PS3 turned out before buying. At the moment is looks to me like sony has abandoned it. The 360 has a better choice of games. Hopefully in the next few months with the new motherboard and second heat sink fitted to the 360, the ROD error should be sorted out.

PS2 is a hunk of junk, glad you got rid of it.

PSP, i hope you got a good deal for it. If you couldn't, personally I'd have just kept it for the homebrew, emulation etc.

Dang how is it. I've been thinking about importing one from the US (since they're cheaper, and the 60GB that they're trying to get rid of have the ps2 chip for ps2 games), but I think I'll wait a bit since my TV isn't that great anyway

The PS3 just uses a generic male to male HDMI cable, they certainly don't cost $120! They cost like a tenth of that!

Did you know Sony said they would openly take any pseon to court caught modding their console. While I doubt they would do that, It is an open threat to anyone planning on doing that.

Unless you talking about the condition of the system and not the system as a whole


But yeah, those HD cables are toooo much where you were shopping. Don't blow 100 on Monster cables cause they look the same as the 20$ ones. While you adopted a little early in my opinion, Please tell us mini reviews of Drakes Forutne, Heavenly Sword, LittleBigPlanet, Killzone 2

Believe me, I got a real sweet deal for the PSP

As for adopting the PS3 early, yes, yes I did, but quite frankly, it's the cheapest Blu-Ray player out right now. Needed to have some hi-def video now with the new TV

The cable that they were selling was a Monster cable. I would never spend more than $20 on a cable, and I was pushing it spending $25 on the component cable

Also, what's wrong with admitting to buying a PS3? I'd rather support Sony than Microsoft

Besides, I'd rather have a console that doesn't die that easily, plus I don't like HD-DVD that much. Game library doesn't mean that much to me, if the console doesn't work, I don't want it. All of my friends except for 1 have a failed Xbox. How sad. Oh well

But so far, even without any games, the PS3 does seem rather enjoyable, as it's a very good DVD player, and I can play all of my content from my computer on it. It feels more like a 'home multimedia center' to me.

Well, I don't have any games yet, but I bought a bundle of 8 new games for $250 for it, so that's a pretty good steal. (They'll be shipping them tomorrow, looking forward to playing Resistance)

What do I do with my computer? I write software, and fix them for a living

Well, The 360 quality is admittly better now. Microsoft also has a 3 year waranty on all new consoles now so thats good. People say get a 360 because truthfully It has a better selection of games. While you may have to pay for XBL, you can rest easy as it is the BEST online system right now. Unless you don't like any 360 game right now which is kinda impossible is where you wouldn't pick one up.


Also they just recently had a price drop. Not trying to convert you but just showing you M$ is a little money hungry but your paying for the best system ATM.


PS3 Games you should have: Resistance. Ninja Gaiden Sigma, and Motorstorm. NO EXCUSE!

Really, I'd rather not pay for the XBL service because I wouldn't use it that much and it would be a waste.

As for the PS3 games, in the pack I got, Resistance and Motorstorm are in there, so I will have them this week

. I was thinking of renting Ninja Gaiden though -- looks sweet.

Sadly, motorstorm osn't nearly as fun as the budget wii game excite truck. Big disappointment, although of course YMMV.
Resistance is loads of fun. Much better than what the critics said.
Ninja Gaiden is Ninja Gaiden, is Ninja Gaiden. If you're hardcore enough to finish the game, you're hardcore enough to drop the 70 bucks.

James Bond and 300 look fantastic on blu-ray, although the first ten minutes of 300 feel like the compression job was botched - the rest of the movie is aesthetically pleasing (as far as gay porn goes - I personally hated 300! seriously, spending two hours loking at half-naked dudes doesn't fit into my definition of "virile"

)

You should pick up Eragon, a fun kids/family movie but with EXCELLENT visuals.

As a movie player, the PS3 is a success. Personally, the only thing I wait for now is a modchip... But that can wait, as I'm only looking forward to Lair. If there's only one interesting game coming out this year, I might as well be polite enough not to pirate it

I would pick up more family movies, but my son is only 11 months old and doesn't care yet, so it's just my wife and I.

Congrats on your new TV and PS3. At the moment, like you said, the reason to buy a PS3 is for the Blu-Ray and not the games. It'll take a while before quality games come out for the PS3, especially the exclusive ones. So how are the Blu-Ray movies? Enjoy the HD movies.

Your logic of picking Bluray over HD-DVD because it can hold more & therefore that means better quality is completely flawed IMO.

Of all the reviews I have read of HD movies just about all of them used the same video resolution/codec whether on Bluray or HD-DVD.


What games did you buy? Is there even 8 good games on the PS3?

Try getting the new Sony game when they release them (Ratchet, Drake and Killzone 2). In the meanwhile, I hope you enjoy your HD experience!

Personally, I don;t know wich one would I buy. I think I would go for the 360 since there so many XBox games I wanted to play (Halos, Fable, KOTOR)

I can't even drive yet...
I'll get one eventually, around the release of FFXIII which is the main reason I want one. Anyways, I hope you enjoy your ps3.
