Dude I made $12.5 an hour when I was 16 at a Meat Plant. Although there was a danger of getting grinded into hamburger.
And Americans often make fun of Canada for having low income.

That's a factory job though. Factory jobs always pay more.

I got my first job when i was 14 here in Australia. It was down at my local store and i stacked shelves there. Pay was decent then i had enough (shit management) and quit. My dad fixes computers, installs security systems, computers and other shit like that. So i decided i would help him out. I learnt to build computer when i just turned 15. I get $10-15 AUD per computer (depending on specs)i build and it now takes me 15-20 mins to build them. I usually build like 10-12 computers a week and i also help out in the business and 3-5 times a month i work 10-12 hour days which is a killer. During these day i get $20-25 AUD per hour depending on what i do. So overall is really sweet working in a family run business. You get payed good and the management of it is really good aswell i get days off when i want (to an extent anwyays) and i learnt a shit load about computers and alarms and crap like that. Cause i bmx my bike is worth $3000-$3500 AUD all my money, booked and payed for my schoolies room for 2008, going sky diving again soon and just over 2 quarters on the way to buying a car (16 you can legally drive a car.) Although soon im dropping my dads business still going to build computers for him but getting an apprenticeship as an electrician. So i think its really good to start working a soon as possible, you learn valuable things about saving and earning money, about the workforce and what not and plus the cash is awesome.

Congrats on the new Job, hope it works out for you. And $8 isn't bad for your first job.
First job at 16, started at 8 too (CAD), still work there and get $8.50 now, getting a raise soon. Rogers Center (Or Skydome for my fellow Canadians) is fun to work at. I've met Alex Rodriguez. He was twice my height. Lol, or so it seemed.

Also, as a 14 year old, you can only work 3 hours a day and 5 days a week. SO you only make:

8*3 = 24

24*5 = 120

Plus the tax that they take out, you MIGHT only come out making 75 bucks a week.

no, on weekends you can work 8 hours a day, trust me

I'm gonna get a job in January, at Fatty McCholesteral's Grease Joint. McDonald's. But apparently if you work there, you would be more considered than a person who worked at like, Safeway, which pays more.

Minors usually get it all back in the end, don't they? I'm 17 and only getting paid $7.50(minimun wage) but the job is practically do nothing.

And anyways, I don't know I'd be able to spend the money on what I wanted (I have about 4 or 5 50€ notes that have been sitting on my desk for over 4 months).

I'm going to try to get a job next semester when I have more time. I'm 14 and it's one of the only jobs I can get, but it's a nothing job where you just sit around all day and get paid for it. I really hope I get it lol.
