Hey people. I bought a second hand Wii U earlier today and it already had cfw installed. However it only had tiramisu installed, so i tried to install aroma on it. Then happens the problem. Whenever I try to boot up aroma, it just stays in a black screen, I tried investigating and found that the aroma folder was empty. So I plugged the SD card back in my PC, transfer the files over and still nothing. Turns out whenever I unplug my SD card from my pc, the aroma folder just becomes empty, like the files in the folder disappear, same goes for the aroma updater folder.

Anyone have a clue as to why that is? Any solutions on how to fix this?

While I'm here I might as well ask how come I can't connect the wii u to our internet connection? I keep getting error code 103-1602. I wanna get pretendo working on it.

Thanks in advance!

The card is probably locked or on a read only mode. 1602 is your connection, weak wifi signal etc. The wifi chip on the console might be on its way out. You can try power cycle the router and console first and move them closer. Also wii u only work on 2.4ghz band wifi and not 5ghz.

The network issue could be a few things

  • The network is a 5Ghz network and the Wii U only supports 2.4Ghz Wifi bands
  • Your network is using a more modern security protocol and the the Wii U does not support WPA3 encryption
  • The wifi chip may be failing

question, our wifi has both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz bands, I've been connecting it to the 2.4Ghz band. Is it because it has a 5Ghz band, causing it to not connect?

Yeah long as you are connected via the 2.4Ghz band it's fine. I'd also suggest just deleting the network config and reconnecting.

that still seems to not work, my working theory is that the wifi chip might be showing it's age, I might try my luck with an Ethernet adapter.

As for the aroma issue, I've come to the conclusion that it might be an issue with the sd card. Might try using a different one or reformatting the current one.

If all else fails guess I'm stuck with tiramisu lmao

When I was reassembling my Wii U, I had the wifi and bluetooth/gamepad antennaes installed every so slightly off, and they failed to work. I thought I had killed it. I disassembled it, cleaned up the connections really well, and made sure they were installed properly. Fired it up and it hasn't failed since.

I wonder how many Wifi chips/antennae have truly "died," and not shifted slightly out of position over the years.

I'VE FIGURED OUT THE WIFI ISSUE.

Turns out, I just needed to move the hard drive to a different spot. It was placed on top of the console, then I placed it on the table, then it connected to the internet. LMAO. This has been by far the silliest fix to a tech issue I've encountered.
