Hello. My friend wanted me to hack his wii. He had it with 3.4 and a wii thats not LU64. I installed HBC via Bannerbomb, then i installed bootmii as boot2. I also backed up the nands, just in case. From there, he couldn't install Cios. So i used Trucha Bug Restorer 1.0 as instructed (Preformed Step 3-5):

From there i installed Cios rev 14. This was the last i recall i was able to use the Wii menu. From there i used Tona's installer to install and patch IOS60 (Sadly, I didn't check if i can still use the menu). Finally i used Waninkoko's 4.0 Firmware updater (I figured i'd go from 4.0, 4.1, then 4.2). After 4.0 claimed to successfully install, it stayed on a black screen for a bit. From there i figured i'd unplug it, wait a few seconds then boot up again. Saldy, it stay's on a blank black screen.

I even tried to put the bootmii backup card in there, it wont even read it on boot.

At this point, i dont care if it's hacked, i just want to get it back and running. Is there anything i can do to get it back and running ? I heard there were a few methods with a gamecube controller and/or a wii game with the latest update. If any one can help out, i will really appreciate it. Thank you for your time.

Okay, don't panic too much. If you have BootMii/boot2 then you'll be alright. To be sure, when you turn on the Wii without the SD card in it, does the disc slot flash? If BootMii doesn't show up when the card is inserted, that means that the files aren't on as the should be or the card isn't compatible.

But in the future don't do wacky things like going from 4.0 to 4.1 to 4.2. It's a lot more work with absolutely zero benefit, and the tools for doing so unfortunately aren't coded well and have bricked plenty of unwary people. It's better to go right to 4.2 either through Nintendo or using the "safe 4.2 updater" since it won't become a bricking app next time there's an update.

For the bootmii card, in the root, i have boot.elf, keys.bin, nand.bin, installer as a text file, nothing in the private folder, bootmii folder which contains armboot.bin, bootmii.ini, ppcboot.elf.

I used a seperate card to install Trucha Bug, Cios, IOS 60 and Wan's 4.0 updater.

EDIT: It flashed when i turned it on then once more when the disc tray finished making noise.

Okay, by the looks of it your card isn't cooperating with BootMii for whatever reason. If you have another one, copy everything on the first card to the other one and try it instead.

Coping bootmii to the other memory card i used trucha, cios, ios and 4.0.

While i do that here's what was in bootmii.ini

Code:
# BootMii config file

# Video mode, possible settings:
# NTSC, PAL50, PAL60, PROGRESSIVE
VIDEO=NTSC

# Autoboot, possible settings:
# SYSMENU, HBC
#AUTOBOOT=SYSMENU

# Autoboot delay, in seconds:
# Default is 5
#BOOTDELAY=5

EDIT: HOLY S*** !! I was able to boot it with the other card.

Installing backup now. *Crossing fingers*

EDIT: IT WORKED !!! THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP !! Very bizzare thou, i used my 2 gig for bootmii; however, my one gig i was using to install the other stuff. And my 2 gig wouldn't read bootmii when it crashed; however, the one gig read when i copied boot mii from the 2 gig. Very odd. :\ No complaints thou.

glad everything worked out for you. You must have been feeling sick to your stomach thinking you might have bricked your friend's wii.

Now, just use zektor's safe 4.2 updater please.

Too many of these things happen. Nobody learns from others mistakes and every little kiddy thinks that they can hack wii's and know what they are doing. I hope stupid people learn not to screw around with things. I kinda wish gbatemp was exclusive and someone could only join by an invite so all these noobs would either; 1. never screw with anybody's wii. 2. be forced to have to read like crazy and figure it out of how to fix the issue (since we all know the answers are out there about a million times over). or 3. Fuck up people's wii's and not be able to fix it and learn their lesson.

There's just way too many people out there that think they are joe fucking cool and that they know what they are doing and they screw things up. It gets really old after a while seeing 20 new people a day all screwing up on wii's.
I agree with you DeadlyFoez. The think is a lot of people don't take the time to read throught the guides that are availible fully before attempting to modify wiis. This individual really lucked out when he bricked his friends wii and fortunate enough that he could get bootmii working. Lesson of this story is read the guide to modify a wii and then read it five more times until you completely understand what you are about to actually attempt to do.

Don't rag on him too hard. At least he had the sense to install BootMii/boot2 and make a NAND backup before messing with anything. That's leagues ahead of a lot of people.
