You do not need menuhax. Get the version of sysupdater that utilizes svchax/memchunkhax 2.5 or whatever u want to call it, and the correct firmware cia files.

And considering that you only need to access HBL once in order to downgrade and the fact that menuhax interferes with many things, I preferred not to use it at all. Could you explain a bit further, and do you know where I can get such information on how to install this thingy that you speak of. I only have two tutorials to go off of right now.

If you are unsure what CFW u want after downgrading, only follow the steps in part 2 (you can use menuhax if u want, I personally don't use it though). Btw, since you're on old 3DS, once you get into homebrew after putting all necessary files on your SD card, wait for a minute or 2 before opening sysupdater. It might help prevent it from freezing at the beginning and forcing u to reboot. You can also try opening ftbrony while u wait, then exiting back to homebrew launcher and then opening sysupdater. Some people claim it helps, although I'm not entirely certain how valid their claims are.

Ok, I followed the guide and used sysupdater to downgrade and I pressed the correct key to restart the system. The screen is black yet the system is still on. What's going on?

Well that's gg m8. But that's life, to learn from your mistakes. My mistake was being too impatient with the downgrader before ;;. Return it if possible

I've had this thing since Launch Day, no way in hell am I gonna find a way to return it.

Its not over though, did you try recovery? Also contact @hundshamer and see if he can hardmod it for you or use this.
