Come back to me when resolution and refresh rate are all more or less the same between systems, and suitable for task, and when DRM is gone and one can pick from a bunch of tracking options. Some games might also help.
Basically I want a real standard as open as anything else in tech with working options and not just prototypes/my funding the real stuff and something to use with it.

I am however slightly curious to see HP throw their hat in the ring. They are not particularly known for their screens, for their controllers/mice, their gaming offerings in almost anything or much of anything else. Though I suppose if facebook are considered an actual player then OK.

I'm waiting for the Oculus Quest 2. I've already got my desktop VR fix with Link, no reason to upgrade to anything right now.

Steam VR is for PC games in Steam. First need a computer that can run VR games you bought in Steam. Then you then need the Virtual Desktop app on the Quest and the special plugin for it you can get through the program Sidequest. (A program for loading things not in the Oculus store) Once you load Virtual Desktop on your PC and connect it with the Quest you can play the PC VR games.

Great, now I can't decide between this and the Valve Index. I like that the Index uses bigger LCDs and has a higher refresh rate, but this has a higher resolution and is significantly less money. But it sounds like it needs a man-in-the-middle app for SteamVR?
    And what about SteamVR tracking?

I feel like I need a fair unbiased review of this vs the Valve Index.

Also, curse you Valve for working with HP on this. Makes this decision that much harder.

At this point, I'm really just thinking about waiting until everything's pretty much standardized and cheaper.

All of these headsets are nice and all but I don't expect VR to get mainstream until everyone on the PC VR side of the fence decide on ONE motion controller to work with. I think the Reverb's controller setup is probably the most straight forward and gamer friendly.

Solid resolution numbers, but since they don't list FoV I'm guessing it's the same 110 degrees as just about every other headset. My Pimax 5K+ runs perfectly (on a 2016 PC) at 1440p per eye, 150 degrees FoV, and 110Hz, so I'm not sure what the hold up is for other manufacturers. As much as I'm sure they'd like the "G2" to stand for generation 2, this seems more like generation 1.5 hardware.

So come back to you when PC gaming turns into console gaming? I think you'll be waiting quite a while for that to happen. People who build their own PCs are always going to want just as much flexibility and just as many options in the VR space as they get with other components/displays.

Playing Quake, Quake 2, Doom and Half Life in VR is amazing. I agree, though. The novelty wears fast.

No I was saying all I have seen thus far VR from every vendor has been below a resolution I would want, probably below a refresh I would want if I am strapping it to my face, generally lacking any content of great merit (be it something that can only really be told by it or expanding an existing concept) and usually with DRM up the arse and coming out of every orifice (which also means what little content there might be said to be is spread even thinner). The option to use different controls would be a nice thing to have as well but I can compromise a bit there.

Come back to me with hardware up to the job at hand and some content to play on it, and able to be plug and play in whatever video standard will be used to manage it, and I will pay attention. Until then they can keep spunking their money chasing a dream and I will continue ignoring it.

Index. 120hz, the best controllers on the market. This HP headset is coming in at a bad price point, imo. The resolution is nice, but if that's all it has to offer in comparison to even the Quest? Not even a competition, imo.

I haven't tried out anything but 90Hz and it gives me the motion sickness, but it could also be that I need glasses and can't wear them while using a VR headset that's messing with me, or maybe it's one or the other in addition to smaller FOVs. I'd like to see if VRidge supports 120 and try it out on a buddy's phone that has that refresh rate.

I feel you, I bought a VR headset when corona started (which wasn't easy since they were sold out everywhere), played Alyx which was absolutely worth it and then tried a few more games and they were all kinda bland compared to Alyx. Sold the thing again, but I did what I wanted with it for the moment.

I also have glasses and it worked perfectly fine with the Rift S that I had. Have to adjust a little so that the glasses sit correctly but I played with glasses on. Otherwise would have had to use contacts.

That's why I'm hesitant to buy it myself 500+ then stays in the corner plus it's not a major console hence games aren't that good

Nice to see that Valve and Microsoft have collaborated, still desperate to get VR to take off ($$$).

I have a mixed reality headset and can assure you, it is faulty by design, the outward looking cameras, can't see and track everything, causes a disorientating mess when in game. If they could combine this tech, with say even just one light house (even a low cost one similar to (Sony's and Microsoft's camera tech), it would be very good, but for some reason Microsoft seem to be against it.

I have Pavlov (mainly bought it to support a good dev, with a good development ethic), it's a good game, but as I have a mixed Reality headset, I feel like throwing up if I play.

I Considered Valves headset, but I stepped back and gave it some though. Whilst Half Life: Alyx, is much more than a demo, it's still only one game, not really immense either (a cross between on rail shooter and small levels - but Valve, so premium and enjoyable). SO £1000 for what you have experienced also, short burst of fun, then collect dust.

By the time the next glut of AAA games are here, we'll have much better headsets and tech again. (I know)

Could get Xbox Series AND PS5, but again, this is a different argument altogether.

In my experience you don't need glasses in VR. I got a clearer image with less discomfort with Gear VR when I wasn't wearing glasses using the wheel on top to adjust the distance between the lenses and screen. Although I don't know if other VR headsets have that feature.
What headset did you try 90 Hz on? There are so many other factors, it might have nothing to do with refresh rate.
The inside out tracking is supposedly near perfect on Oculus Quest and Rift S. WMR headsets so far have been using "last gen" inside out tracking which doesn't work as well. Hopefully this has better tracking.
It doesn't need to track everything. It just needs enough information to track your position accurately, and have cameras on the sides to track the controllers past your FOV. Drones can track their position accurately enough using just a single camera and some other sensors to hover in the air.

Honestly I don't think it's worth $500 plus.. The guy I got mine from wanted $350 but after a day of saying $200 is my Max offer he gave in... It's cool in small doses.. NETFLIX & films are great but if u wear it too long you definitely get motion sickness kinda feeling.. Kinda when I used to love playing my 3DS.. In 3D for hours & hours finishing Zeldas.. Ect or watching Moflex films in 3D... After playing then my eyes would go bonkers for a while.. It's 10 times worse with VR.... I just don't think VR is truly ready yet.. Nor the games for it... But I'm certainly sure they will be one day... & the price had to drop for it to become more than a expensive toy... Novelty type

    — Posts automatically merged - Please don't double post! —

Completely agree Half Life Alx just seemed like a showcase demo.. Looked so good in the pictures ect looked like a deep game like HL1 or HL2... & the walking dead there's fun to be had but still over hyped.. Pavlov is the one.. I played the most.. & everyone wants to play if I set it up...
