That is not true, it's just polarizing this discussion. You didn't even give any valid argument.

Even if the above were true, I can invalidate it, since all of those points are invalid for me.

Tell me why I should accept drm, why should I accept performance drops even though vista requires a high end PC, why should I accept crappy drivers and non-working applications.

How not valid? Vista x64, properly configured, is faster than XP x86 on my high-end system. I have 2 hardware firewalls, and never get viruses in either. I did download a virus on purpose, and Windows Defender caught it very quickly

Those patches fix a LOT of Vista's early problems

Besides BioShock, there is no DRM in/for Vista that hasn't been cracked.

You have no Idea about DRM; go to the link I posted and inform yourself. DRM is about far more than just petty gaming.

I got it for free (legally), have the newest (beta) drivers, all my programs work, disabled UAC and DRM, and have more than enough protection. I don't see how any of that applies to a well-configured system (besides the price)

the fact that EAX don't work turns me away alittle cause I'm a soundgeek. Even tho I haven't got any good headphones/speakers, I still want sound delivered from my computer to come out in the best possible way.

SP1 appears to be coming along so personally I would wait for that, I have not put as much time in as some around here though.

With regard to directx10, in the opinion of many it is one of the few things that makes vista worth the effort so I doubt MS will drop a version any time soon. This being said:

Just wait when MS starts monitoring all of your on-line habits. There is enough corporate spyware built into Vista to open you up like a book. For those that want to toot the Vista horn, go for it. In the long run, you will be sorry.

Vista = DRM at a hardware level
Vista = security to shut down unregistered or unauthorized apps.
Vista = monitoring of all internet usage and computer usage
Vista = CRAP!

It just has a bunch of little annoyances, like freezing the screen to ask if I really mean to do something every thirty seconds. Or, for instance, programs (like emule) that save files to /program files/whatever actually save to a hidden folder located somewhere like (I forget the actual path) user/local/appdata/virtual drive/program files/whatever, and they don't show up with the search function. It took me forever to find this out, and it's ridiculous to do this.

Not to mention all the programs that have "known problem installing on vista. Would you like to search the web for a solution?".

I like windows, but not vista. I'll take XP thanks.

Turn off UAC, that thing is crap.

Control panel>user accounts>Turn User Account control on or off

Vista is better than XP if you are willing to put the time into it

Hmmm...seems I don't want to upgrade just yet seems to be the general consensus.

And thinking about it, I don't know if my video card is DirectX 10 compatable...I didn't even know you had to have a compatable video card for that. I have a GeForce 8600 GT. Any idea if that is even DirectX 10 capable?

Oh, and about the patches for Halo 2 and Shadowrun to work on XP, they don't work for me. I did a search and seems many people for unknown reasons get that error. Seems the patch works for some and not for others.

Also, with Microsoft's next 2 360 games coming to the PC (Gears Of War and Viva Pinata) won't be Vista only. Well, they only said "on Vista AND XP" for Gears of War. But hopefully Viva Pinata will be as well.

it isn't compatabile mainly with some homebrew software and certain displays I've noticed. overall it's worthwhile, but I still primarily use XP. compared to mac os/x... vista is still behind.

Vista works absolutely fine on my system. Turned off TCP auto tuning. Kept UAC on. I use a 2GB flash drive for ReadyBoost ... but I'm not sure if I really see any difference in speed. But I leave it in anyway.

I only had a little trouble installing a network printer, but I just had to keep UAC on (had it disabled before) and install the printer driver locally and everything went fine.

I have one small gripe about windows media center and how it handles the volume. When changing the volume, it changes the master volume for Vista. Sorta annoying when I want to mute the tv, and watch some youtube or listen to mp3s. I have to go to the mixer and mute media center there ... which is a small hassle, because I'm lazy as fuck.

Your 8600 is DX10 capable, but to run the future DX10 games, you are going to need a better card. The current mid-range cards, Nvidia's 8600 and ATi's HD2600, are less powerful (and more expensive I might add) than the old DX9 ATi X1950.

Don't. Vista sucks, that's why I am a Mac user. I'm actually using Vista Ultimate as I type this, but I multi-boot ONLY to use some Windows-restricted apps, like BatchDPG and Microsoft Office 2007.
