Hacking How to use ACNL & PKM X save file with roms?

Hello,

I have dumped my Animal crossing & Pokemon Y cards, they work great with GW but can I use the same savefile of my retail card? How to extract savefile from the dump and restore it to the rom?

There is a program in the first post. It's pretty newish but at least one person confirmed it works. I am not sure if it works with retail saves though.

edit: sorry I forgot to mention that saves only work with the game they came from... So you can't put a save from your personal rip into a different rom.

Thanks but I don't understand: the savefile is in the .3ds dump, right?
So why should I extract the save from the rom then?

I have to extract the save from my Pokemon dump and restore the same savefile to the dump ??

I use a personal rip and I can't load my save with my dump... Save is corrupt

That's not true. You can't move a rom save to a cart, but you can share a save from rom to rom given the same region and xy version.

The save contained in a dump of a cart will not work in it's rom image -- you'll have to reformat the save.

Now this being said, nobody has tested AC new leaf to see if roms and cart saves are compatible. We still need somebody with a powersaves and a AC cart to check the file size of a backed up save.

We have the save offset, we lack the file size.

I even went and proceed to back up my cart + Save.

maybe wait a while and see what gateway have planned with the fact they are ripping the unique cart ID with the rom.....it "might" work in future......then again it might not, we will just have to see

using this extractor you can at least keep your save for just in case

Someone will have to find a way around the save file encryption first, so for the forseeable future, no.

I have everything required to check this. I'll give it a shot after I finish dumping the game with Gateway.

well i think it works with gateway as they all share the same/no "unique ID" meaning they are use the same encryption

a save taken from a retail cart used a unique id to generate its encryption

Ahh Gotcha. Sorry it's not my intention to spread misinformation. My mistake and thanks for clearing that up.

Just did some benchmarking with ACNL US rom version and, holy crap, the saving/loading takes forever:

exfat (load top/save bottom)
4m 12s
1m 20s

fat32
4m 27s
1m 30s

My card is new and in good shape -- I can't see how it should take 4 and a half minutes to load an 8MB save file. I hope GW team can clean this up a little, at least for the sake of people interested in playing the rom (i have the legit DD version, thank god).
