I haven't update my 3ds xl from last year after I installed CFW.
Is it safe to update to the newest firmware?
can someone point out how to update this to the newest firmware safely?

Make sure your running Luma3ds v10.0.1 then update normally

hold Select button when power up your 3ds and u will see the version.

What does this got to do with this thread? The answer is yes, it was fixed. Go search for the latest NTR out there.

Replace boot.firm on root of SD card

You will take the boot.firm from https://github.com/AuroraWright/Luma3DS/releases/tag/v10.0.1 and replace the boot.firm you will find on the root of your sd card.
