Hi, i've downloaded bootv4 using NUS and i've made a WAD file. Boot2-NUS-v4.wad

How can i install? I've tried (wadmanager 1.5 with HBC or wadmanager with cboot2) but i get always error -1017
Other wads are installed normally w/o problems

    Thanks

Boot2 doesn't install the same way that a normal wad does. If you want it that badly go into your settings and hit the big ol' Update button.

Why on earth would you want to? If something goes wrong, you'll brick. If you have BootMii as boot2, you'll overwrite it, meaning if you DO brick in the process, you'd need an Infectus to unbrick. There is absolutely no benefit of updating boot2. The only things you should ever update are IOS, System Menu and System Channels. (You should always have the latest IOS and System Channels e.g. shop channel, photo channel etc., and you should always have the latest non-homebrew crippling System Menu (4.0/4.1)).

But, i've heard that official update sometimes can cause brick.

So i want to do this
    1) i update only boot2
    2) i install again bootMii
    3) i make backup
    4) i use official update

Dont do that. My advice would be this. Get the latest NUSD. Run it and select Extras>Simulate Update, then select your region. It'll make a NUS script. Run the NUS script, with the Pack>WAD box ticked. If a boot2 WAD is made, delete it. Put the rest of the WADs in your WAD folder, and install them in turn, System Menu last. Before you do all this, update HBC with the HackMii Installer 0.6 to v1.0.6.

Any measure you undertake to install any version of Boot2 outside of installing Bootmii will use the same Nintendo function the official update uses, giving you the very same brick chance.

he probably got a modchip, and maybe he wants to be 99% legal + bootmii [IMG]
Your only option is to go hit the update button on the menu. I know you came here JUST to avoid the brick risk but over here we dont mess around with boot2 updates... yet! [IMG]

    I don't have modchip.

I have all IOS trucha enabled and it is not necessary. I want to reset the IOS original (except based like 36)

I think that the solution is updating to the latest official so all IOS are written to latest version.
After that i'll "open" the firmware using cboot2 procedure

But i've read that official update can make full brick.

If i update boot2 to latest version before, when i use official update still remain to v4.
    So i can restore/format w/o problems

Why all say to not update? Is it so bad? I've read that bootMii still works on boot2 because the bug is in boot1.
After this update i need only to reinstall bootmii

Whatever. It doesn't change the fact that there are NO tools that can modify boot2 aside from Nintendo's update stuff and the HackMii Installer. Do the "simulate update" thing in NUS Downloader like some user suggested.

umm... bootmii works IN boot2, not WITH boot2.
What you read was that you are still able to install bootmii as boot2 even if you updated your boot2, because the bug that allows the installer to work is located in boot1, which can never be changed.

When you install bootmii in boot 2 you are physically writing over blocks in boot2. Understand? If you somehow figured out on your own how to write something there, you would be 100% bricked without special hardware if anything went wrong, because as soon as you write there, bootmii is gone. so if you are in the US, for example you have 199 reasons NOT to mess with boot2 (those reasons would be dollars for the young folk who may not get the reference), and ZERO reasons to upgrade it. Install bootmii as boot2 by all means. But if it's there... leave it alone!
