How to replace battery/perform service on 3DS without losing real time clock/date/time

    Keep your 3DS plugged in while removing/inserting the battery.

    Cool.
    This works for DSi (XL) too.
    im not sure if this works too for DS/Lite without losing RTC or profile data.

    You shouldn't "perform service" on it with it plugged in.

    It's fine, the important part of the system is off.
    Unless you are trying to find a way to do bootrom dump/hardmod/testing don't try turning the system on.
