Hi. Does this resolve the fragment error that we often encounter when adding roms to the gateway ?

make a new folder on gw msd root. move all the .3ds/z files there.and move back to root from the folder each file one by one in order you want them (open 2 windows n simple drag n drop, no actual r/w process because you only move them on the same drive).

yah , it's really a good idea to move 50 GB of game files each time i want to rearrange my games .

    Luigi's Dark Mansion
    Name them alphabetically,
    Example
    A Pokemon Y
    B Mario kar
    C super smash brothers

    Etc.

    Then use a FAT sorter

    To prevent fragmentation error,
Format the card to the correct format,
    (Do backup before hand)

Some users will recommend the SD formatter

file size is irrelevant, because you only move around files in the same drive/partition in and out a folder, no r/w process involved, the files will be moved instantly.

I think my micro sd card is in exFAT. Should i format to FAT32 ?

(In order to prevent fragment error, this error always occurs if i don't copy all files at the same time each time i want to add a ROM)

Thx but i would avoid using some defrag tools. Some people haven't even heard about fragment error, it has to be a solution that does not need to defrag

You are right. Cause those are moved on a same drive, only the FAT allocation table is affected, no actual file moving. -- Unless that is mixed filesystem mounted on linux.
Yeah if i do something similar to fatfs i would choose to scan the FAT allocation table for files inside the folder.. So that is what this method works.
Unfortunately, maybe no. As you know game files differ in their sizes. So sometimes it would cause a dis-order of file displacement if you delete one and place another.
    Think. 4 Files:file*size A*4,B*6,C*2,D*4. 14 Sections: AAAABBBBBBCC >> ====DDDD==CC >> BBBBDDDDBBCC. = is empty section. Okey now B is fragmented.
Even your SD card does actually smartly the NAND pages mapping table instead of moving it. Well only if you are using its special driver or file system. Not general one, or FAT32.
You have to use software to actual move the part of file from a section to the other. Even i hope there is something making it easier.. I doubt it.
The fragments would slow down the IO speed slightly, but enough to cause disorder if it should be read very fast to across sections. So, "Fragmentation Error".

    No so ridiculous really..
When I try drivesort on my 128GB exFAT SD card with 225 3DS files, it just says something about not being able to work with NTFS drives...
