Homebrew how to play save from vba gx on wii to retroarch on 3ds?

My husband wanted to play his save of Pokemon FireRed that he's been playing on vba gx on the wiii now on retroarch on 3ds. It seems that the save files are different formats. Vba gx has .sav and when I save games on gpsp on retroarch they are .state and saved in the savestates folder. I'm not sure if I need to convert them or if there's a way to load .sav files on gpsp or not.

Don't use gPSP in Retroarch, I'd actually recommend ditching RA entirely. Use New Super Ultimate Injector to create an injection CIA (Ultimate GBA VC Injector doesn't work, it makes the save corrupt after beating the game). Transferring the save is easy:
0) put the .sav on your SD card
1) Run the injected game once
3) Open GodMode9
4) Press Y over the .sav
5) Go to Sysnand Virtual in GM9's main menu
6) Press A over agbsave.bin and click Inject GBA Save
6.5) do whatever it tells you to do

@iluvfuzz, another option is the latest nightly builds of the mGBA emulator. This works fairly well with Pokemon games on n3DS / n3DSXL / n2DSXL.

Edit - If you go the GBA VC injection route with NSUI, you may need to use RTC save format option.

Thank you guys! @TurdPooCharger Right now I'm trying the mGBA route and the save loads and the game runs great but I have a one problem. There is no sound. I googled it and others seem to have the same problem? Also I installed the cia version and its a n3ds.
