How to Play Pokemon Box Ruby & Sapphire Adventure Mode (Wii)

I've Seen a lot of people struggle with this and I'm here to provide a how to guide with
knowledge provided by people in a thread i made who will be credited down below!
this would be so much harder to figure out without them!

Prerequisites:
- A ISO of Pokemon Box Matching the region of the cart (or the correct combination show below)
(ex. PKMN RS (US Cart) + PKMN Box (US ISO), PKMN RS (US Cart) +PKMN Box (PAL ISO)
PKMN RS (PAL Cart) + PKMN Box (PAL ISO), PKMN RS (JPN Cart) + PKMN Box (JPN ISO)

- A GBA with a GBA to GCN Link Cable

- Devolution by tueidj: https://gbatemp.net/threads/devolution-public-release.330554/#post-4304727
(or)
- Devolution Cracked by bobmcjr: https://gbatemp.net/threads/defeating-devolution.615252/

I'd recommend the cracked version if you're like me that owns a dumped ISO but doesn't have access to your
physical copy as it bypasses the disc check on first use and let's you immediately boot your dumped ISO

I will not provide a link to an ISO so please do not ask.

Setup process:
- Place your the "gc_devo" folder of either the
cracked or OG Devolution inside the path "SD:/apps/"

- From here it's pretty straight forward, that being said, open the homebrew menu
and launch the Devolution program you chose to use

- Here you will notice key differences if you're used to Nintendont and plan on using OG Devolution:
OG Devolution will use "SD:/games/" as it's paths for ISO files
Devolution Cracked will use "SD:/games/"Game name"/" (Just like Nintendont)

- If you made it this far, you're done! Just boot up your ISO and go in Adventure Mode
and when it finishes connecting it should work just fine.

FAQ:
"Don't most PAL Gamecube games require a PAL CRT, so wouldn't it make mixing and matching as shown above be pointless?"
No, because Devolution as well as Devolution Cracked can force games to run at 480p thus making it PAL ISO compatible with a NTSC CRT.

"Will this work on a Wii without the Gamecube controller ports?"
I am unsure as I'd imagine if it does it'd be a lot more of a hassle to get it setup.

"Why Devolution and not Dios Mios/Lite?"
Well that's the thing Dios Mios/Lite is so much more of a rabbithole to
understand and or set up so i went with this option as those in the thread i made
were more in favor of going with devolution because of this.

Devolution (at least the official boot.dol loader - Wiiflow has an old config implemented, before devo had this function. See here if you want to compile a custom flags version yourself) forces progressive scan on all modes.
As in, you play a 50hz only game (576i) - it outputs 576p.
You play a 60hz game (NTSC?) - it outputs 480p.
You play a NTSC game with official progressive scan support? You get 480p + flicker filter before the prompt, 480p after (If I remember correctly games disable it when run into progressive mode.)
A PAL game with 50hz/60hz selector will output at 576p@50hz by default or 480p@60hz when choosing 60hz - it will not force 60hz and as such no 480p on 50hz pal games.
A clean ISO of Pokemon Box Matching the region of the cart (or the correct combination show below)
(ex. PKMN RS (US Cart) + PKMN Box (US ISO), PKMN RS (US Cart) +PKMN Box (PAL ISO)
PKMN RS (PAL Cart) + PKMN Box (PAL ISO), PKMN RS (JPN Cart) + PKMN Box (JPN ISO)
If you use a cracked boot.dol / loader.bin you don't need a clean .ISO
Even if I own the game I don't use the official ver. for this reason - I prefer to use DMToolbox in order to shrink the images & align them to 32k.

There's one rare quirk. An NTSC GameCube improperly encodes PAL color. 50hz-only software would display in monochrome. (I believe the official component cable corrects this, it bypasses the system's composite/s-video)

But I don't know where you'd find a TV set today, that's seriously incapable of 60hz.

this is present in nintendont as well, but the TV shown is incapable of 60hz thus if anyone else has that issue i'd overall just recommend using an NTSC Wii, ISO, and TV, (or they reside in any other region vice versa) even if one were to play on a modern display I'd recommend that, as i wouldn't exactly know what to tell someone should they run into this issue.

i apologize if this repsonse misinterprets your message it's currently 5 am lmao

I'm honestly surprised that the NTSC GameCube doesn't use the rarely-utilised NTSC50 video standard when running PAL software at 50hz. I'm also surprised that NTSC50 didn't become standard for films, given how weird 3:2 pulldown is.

Also, another example of Devolution being more awesome than Nintendont: it handles the GBA emulator accurately. If only it were open-source and not an "anti-piracy" program that can't load retail discs but only disc images.

It's possible to use it through Swiss, but otherwise due to architectural limitations, it's normally output as quasi-PAL-N, as it's selecting PAL-M encoding.

Is it a 3rd party gba to GCN link cord?

How can I change the block size in the memory card emulation? It happens that in the Japanese version of Pokemon Box it forces me to have a memory of 59 blocks.

I just ran into this issue, when using an NTSC copy a few minutes ago, while it can affect pokemon in said pokemon box as well as progress in getting the eggs Bridgette provides, I'm not exactly sure how to fix this as the goal of this thread was just to share a method of getting the game up and running, i'm not sure if using a physical memory card will mend this issue as mine is in the living room in my other wii so i sorta don't feel like going to get it especially when i'm uncertain what the worst case scenario will be, thus my recommendation to you is to try to not keep any valuable pokemon in there and while that isn't the greatest answer unfortunately, that is all i can suggest if not using PHEX if you are on a flashcart or able to dump your save in some way, but until someone figures a way around this there is nothing i can do for you.
