How to perform a System Transfer without losing non-legitimate titles

Nintendo 3DS System Transfer Tutorial by PrincessLillie

"How do I do a system transfer without losing my homebrew?"
This is a question that seems to get asked a lot, so I figured I'd write a tutorial on how to do it to put an end to the countless threads.

What You Need
  • The latest release of faketik (the .3dsx file)

Instructions
  1. Ensure that both of your devices are updated by going to System Settings, then “Other Settings”, then going all the way to the right and using “System Update”.
    • Updates while using boot9strap and Luma3DS are safe. However, please make sure the Luma3DS version is 10.2.1 or newer before updating.
    • If you are on arm9loaderhax (Luma3DS v7.0.5 or older), please follow A9LH to B9S.
    • If the System Update gives you an error, set your DNS settings to “auto”.
    • If the System Update still gives you an error, follow CTRTransfer, then try updating again.
  2. Perform a PC-based System Transfer as normal.
  3. Install Luma3DS and boot9strap on your new system with Nintendo Homebrew's 3DS Hacks Guide.
    • If your system already has boot9strap installed, this step is not required.
  4. Power off your device.
  5. Insert your SD card into your computer.
  6. Create a folder named '3ds' on the root of your SD card if it does not already exist.
  7. Copy faketik.3dsx to the /3ds/ folder on your SD card.
  8. Reinsert the SD card into your device.
  9. Power on your device.
  10. Open the Homebrew Launcher.
  11. Launch faketik from the list of homebrew.
  12. Wait patiently while faketik generates new tickets for your non-legitimate applications and games.
    • This may take some time if you have a lot of non-legitimate applications or games. Please be patient.
  13. Once it finishes, press START or B to exit.
  14. Close the Homebrew Launcher and return to the HOME Menu.

Your non-legitimate titles should now appear on the HOME Menu. They may be wrapped. If you have a lot of titles, you can mass-unwrap them with Cthulhu. As for your save data, it should still be intact when you start your games.

If anything is wrong with this guide, please let me know, either by replying or via DM. Thank you.

idk bruh dont want to cook the system some how
(cause i would find a way)
If there were people "cooking their systems" by copying everything then there would be big warnings about that everywhere and lots of threads from people ignoring the big warnings.

Which is not to say that you still can't find a way to "cook your system", but that is not one of them.

Just chiming in to add 2 cents wrt wireless system transfer.

Way back when I transferred from my O3DS to my N3DS, I actually went through the trouble of doing it wirelessly. My old console had a 64 GB that was nearly full, to the new one that had a 128 GB card in it at the time.

Had I known just how long that was going to take, or even that that method has less safeguards vs. PC transfer, I would have done that. Moving about 58 GB of stuff at the wireless network speeds of the O3DS is about as painful as you'd imagine it would be. Took at least a couple of days. Perhaps 3 or 4.

My N3DS had no CFW on it when I got it. I opted to wait on modding it until after the transfer. O3DS had CFW and homebrew/illegitimate titles on it.

I recall seeing everything on the O3DS SD card copied over to the new one. I thought it would only do the Nintendo 3DS and the DCIM folders. The only prep I remember doing was formatting the 128 GB card as fat32, backing up NAND on O3DS, and backing up saves with Checkpoint before initiating the transfer. Edit to add: I copied all the O3DS contents somewhere safe, in case things went belly-up.

Illegitimate titles were gone, of course. I want to say GONE gone, not just "not visible", but I didn't go out of my way to explicitly check at the time. IIRC, FBI showed no signs of any of the illegitimate titles. But I also just reinstalled the titles and called it good, once I put CFW on the N3DS.

That was the first and only system transfer I've ever done. Reading about what could potentially go wrong over the years showed how lucky I was that it actually worked out okay.

Wireless transfer would not be my choice for many reasons now. Especially with a 400 GB SD card in my N3DS (227 GB free, I think). If I thought 58 GBs was painful before...

dam that seems kinda rough though i also did a wireless transfer and then just swaped my sd cards over and ran faketik (both my o2ds and n2ds were hacked before the transfer)
