Hacking How to make my console legit again?

I have had my Xbox 360 for a few years now, and it can run backup games. But i have been wanting to go legit again for a while, but i fear that if i just update it, my console would be banned, so i need to know, what is the safer way to make my console legit again?

Just DVD backups or is it homebrew enabled?
