How to install eShop games with SX OS

I am NOT responsible if you get banned or somehow mange to brick your switch

Prerequisites
  • Have a working SX OS licenses and have it set up
  • Have a copy of devmenu (I can't link to this here you'll have to find it yourself)
  • A micro SD card
  • OPTIONAL put your switch into airplane mode before doing this

Part One: Setting up your SD card

Plug your SD card into your PC. Create a folder called sxos, then create a folder inside of that and name it titles. Once you have done that create another folder and name it with the title ID for the game you plan on layeredfs-ing.

In my case it's Pokémon Quest so my file structure looks like this sxos\titles\01005D100807A000. Now put the romfs and exefs for devmenu in that folder. (I'm assuming that the copy of devmenu you have is already in layeredfs format.)
Finally put the NSP for the game you plan on installing on the root of your SD card.
At this point your SD card should look something like this

Part Two:Installing the NSP

Boot into SX OS and choose "Boot custom FW". Launch the donner title that you are using (again in my case Pokemon Quest)

You should see this come up on your screen.

Select the install from SD option. The NSP you have should now appear on screen, press A to start the installation.

You can choose either install to SD or system memory. After selecting that press A one again.

The NSP should now start installing.

Wait a few minutes and the install should finish

It is now safe to go back to the home menu and close out of devmenu

After closing out of devmenu your new game should show up

Enjoy!

Nice and simple. Good job. Still waiting on my pro to arrive, can anyone confirm if this works(boots) with SXOS without the license? I didn't have a chance to try this morning before work.

Does their LayeredFS imementation work without license?

If not, can we use devmenu to install the game using hekates layeredFS and then does the eshop game boot in SXOS without license?

I don't think it will work without a license but, I haven't tested that myself so don't count me on that. As of right now you can't do it via hekate since SX OS 1.3 applies sigpatches when installing an NSP, which is what allows this to be done.

Doesn't the OS do the sig patching seeing as we are just installing with the devmenu the same as we can do with hekate?

If the OS is doing the Sig patching and it's not locked behind their paywalled backup loader than it should work

DevMenu is pretty much a guaranteed banhammer even if you're only using it offline, correct? This is really tempting to mess around with, but I may also just wait out for a less risky .nsp installer.

It is reaaaallly tempting, though. I've pretty much accepted that my modded Switch will get banned eventually.

Backup nand, mess around with this, don't go online, restore nand later

Like I said in my other post yooka is the only game I've tested. Tomorrow, I'll test a bunch a create a working/not working chart similar to the "How to use LayeredFS" thread.
All good, was more of a general question for the thread, by tomorrow you should have a list from other users. If that pesky dongle is in my mailbox in 5 hours when I finish work I'll get to work on it!

This is actually simpler that i thought. Still, not gonna do it for now, maybe if i get banned in the future.

With this, i think we gonna see a rise of NSP games on "those" sites, so it would be easier to get them.

Hopefully! Eshop dumps won't need day 1 updates either. So that's a big +

This does make use of LayeredFS (which has resulted in a ban for a lot of people), so better be careful if you care about staying unbanned.

Also, I believe title updates for games are in NSP format. Anyone tried installing those? This was no one would need to ever go online with the Switch! Problem solved.

You don't? You make those folders on your SD card and put the Dev menu files in the folders. Pokemon quest should already be on your switch. In the OP he gives the exact folder name to be made and used for if you're using Pokemon Quest as the donor for devmenu... The long number folder name ... Hopefully makes sense.

My only question and I'll find this out later when I get home from work... Is if I can use Fortnite as a donor...
