How to install eShop games with SX OS

I am NOT responsible if you get banned or somehow mange to brick your switch

Prerequisites
  • Have a working SX OS licenses and have it set up
  • Have a copy of devmenu (I can't link to this here you'll have to find it yourself)
  • A micro SD card
  • OPTIONAL put your switch into airplane mode before doing this

Part One: Setting up your SD card

Plug your SD card into your PC. Create a folder called sxos, then create a folder inside of that and name it titles. Once you have done that create another folder and name it with the title ID for the game you plan on layeredfs-ing.

In my case it's Pokémon Quest so my file structure looks like this sxos\titles\01005D100807A000. Now put the romfs and exefs for devmenu in that folder. (I'm assuming that the copy of devmenu you have is already in layeredfs format.)
Finally put the NSP for the game you plan on installing on the root of your SD card.
At this point your SD card should look something like this

Part Two:Installing the NSP

Boot into SX OS and choose "Boot custom FW". Launch the donner title that you are using (again in my case Pokemon Quest)

You should see this come up on your screen.

Select the install from SD option. The NSP you have should now appear on screen, press A to start the installation.

You can choose either install to SD or system memory. After selecting that press A one again.

The NSP should now start installing.

Wait a few minutes and the install should finish

It is now safe to go back to the home menu and close out of devmenu

After closing out of devmenu your new game should show up

Enjoy!

When I try to open DevMenu through Pokemon Quest it freezes the screen and I have to power off the switch holding power. What could it be?

I'm getting the same issue. I'm not sure. Try to report this issue on TX's forum so that I'm not the only one.... People telling me I did stuff incorrectly.

(Just realized they are making their own NSP installer. I might as well wait. It would be a good idea to at least make them get Devmenu properly working with other exfat sd cards which are not supported.)

Also, I'm just letting everyone know as a friendly warning (because I've seen it happen multiple times in this thread alone), but do not mention where you get DevMenu from or ask where to get it, even through PM. Seems like a very silly reason to get banned/warnings for but please do not share that information here. This is not the type of place for that. If you really want to know where to look, maxconsole is probably the best place.

Can someone link me to a thread on how to update games installed from this method? I could've sworn I saw one before...

My only question and I'll find this out later when I get home from work... Is if I can use Fortnite as a donor...

I tried Fortnite as a donor (Id 010025400AECE000) but it freezes when loading.
Anyone managed to make it work with Fortnite ? or a downloaded XCI game ? (like many of us i don't want to connect to connect my switch now)

Nope, Fornite as a donor does not work, you need Pokemon Quest for that to work.

Thanks.
Someone claim having successfully launched DevMenu with South Park as a donor. But it's failing for me, i don't know if someone else tried it too.

I tried launching the Devmenu with the Sandisk Ultra 64gb, (These are from the official reseller), for some reason it freezes at the game loading screen (I made sure everything was correct). I tested the files and transferred it to my Sandisk Extreme 32gb and Devmenu worked properly! The problem is that fat32 does not support files that are larger than 4gb :(

Edit: I managed to get Stardew Valley on my sd card but when I tried to install from the devmenu, it shows a "failed to install" error when it reached at 100%

i'm not interested in games + updates, only updates.
because, i have my games dumped to xci.

if i had a banned cert, i'd be happy to try and collect some updates!

There's a tutorial on the site on how to get updates + DLC with CDNSP. It works perfectly for me! :D

What game are you using as a donor for DevMenu ? my SD is exFAT formatted, largest XCI files are working fine.

So here's a thing, didn't we get several posts/tweets from established hackers talking about Nintendo's beefed up security this time around, saying that running pirated eShop games was close to impossible? Or is Dev Menu a wildcard that made this possible?
