How to install eShop games with SX OS

I am NOT responsible if you get banned or somehow mange to brick your switch

Prerequisites
  • Have a working SX OS licenses and have it set up
  • Have a copy of devmenu (I can't link to this here you'll have to find it yourself)
  • A micro SD card
  • OPTIONAL put your switch into airplane mode before doing this

Part One: Setting up your SD card

Plug your SD card into your PC. Create a folder called sxos, then create a folder inside of that and name it titles. Once you have done that create another folder and name it with the title ID for the game you plan on layeredfs-ing.

In my case it's Pokémon Quest so my file structure looks like this sxos\titles\01005D100807A000. Now put the romfs and exefs for devmenu in that folder. (I'm assuming that the copy of devmenu you have is already in layeredfs format.)
Finally put the NSP for the game you plan on installing on the root of your SD card.
At this point your SD card should look something like this
sx.PNG

Part Two:Installing the NSP

Boot into SX OS and choose "Boot custom FW". Launch the donner title that you are using (again in my case Pokemon Quest)

You should see this come up on your screen.

Select the install from SD option. The NSP you have should now appear on screen, press A to start the installation.

You can choose either install to SD or system memory. After selecting that press A one again.

The NSP should now start installing.

Wait a few minutes and the install should finish

It is now safe to go back to the home menu and close out of devmenu
2018070319134300-57B4628D2267231D57E0FC1078C0596D.jpg

After closing out of devmenu your new game should show up

Enjoy!

I have followed the guide step by step and when i load into CFW all that happens is the Pokemon Quest game loads.
Can anyone please help me get dev menu working?

I'm in the same situation right now, is your sx os license valid ?
This, if your license is valid make sure you have the right TitleID

I hope TX gives us a built-in NCA installer in their next update.
They most likely will, I would expect a release by the end of July.

This?? I dont understand this???? Anyone that claims that isn't telling the whole truth. How does Nintendo know I have used SX OS offline if I've literally never connected to the outside world through internet at all. Seems illogical to me. I've already have done many things with my switch that I know I wasn't suppose to do ..lol, and especially now its still foggy and unclear how Nintendo knows how to ban/flag you with so many conflicting ban reports. I'm staying in airplane mode for the remainder. Why do I care if I do get banned ? ...I don't. The only reason I will stay in airplane mode is for the sheer principle and satisfaction of Nintendo not knowing at all what I'm doing behind the scenes..."Oh no I cant access eshop to buy games", when the whole reason I even decided to weigh the risks on using software that violates the EUA in the first place is to play free dumps as to not spend so much money on games. Definitely would recommend on making an "untainted" Nand backup and just stay in airplane mode if you do care about being banned. I haven't personally found a real reason to even go online at this point.

He meant, that if you play in SX OS offline, and then go in OFW online, Nintendo will know that you were using SX OS.

NeoSlyde, do full nand backup on clean Switch before any modifications, it can save you in the future. Never go online if you do not want to receive a console ban. Then if you want to sell your console or play legit games online, restore your nand.
Update FW using guide w\o burning fuses.

What NSP are you trying to install?
i tried yooka laylee and when that didn't work i tried making my own with CDNSP and just did 1-2 switch and both failed, the yooka laylee one i know works but for some reason for me it gets to 99% or something like that then says failed to install

Are you installing to system memory or to the SD card?

I'm assuming that Devmenu currently only works on firmware 5.0.1?

Currently on 3.0.2 myself, but get stuck at the nintendo launch screen.

i tried both
Dunno then, my guess is that Devmenu doesn't want to play nice with your SD card for some reason.

Yeah, I believe that layeredFS only works on 5.x.x

Now DevMenu is working well with Bayonetta XCI, i installed Pokemon Quest from a NSP and wanted to use it as a DevMenu launcher (To saves some space as i don't want to play Bayonetta)
Unfortunately it freezes at loading screen.
Anyone managed to make it work in this situation ?

Edit : problem solved, it was not a Pokemon Quest installed with NSP issue but a "bit" archive on my title folder that make DevMenu freeze at startup

There's multiple reasons for this so I'll just break them apart.
  • There were also many people who were banned for using LayeredFS completely offline. You can say it was due to certain error reports generated when it was crashed but not everyone had it crash on them. Add into the mix that more people were not banned for using it and there are already inconsistencies that cannot be remedied by calling one group a liar; everyone is at risk for lying. The whole point though is that the Switch was able to detect certain information when LayeredFS was used, capture it, and send it to Nintendo when the console connected online
  • For people who not used LayeredFS, there are other offline hacks they can use such as AutoRCM, homebrew, or even a trimmed .XCI. There a lot of factors to take into account even if we limit it to SX OS only. All of these modifications are being done to the system itself directly hence why separating the system into 2 partitions (EmuNAND & SysNAND) would be more ideal towards mitigating bans. Maybe it is as simple as using SX OS or there are more steps than we initially thought. It might be misleading to say these bans are due to SX only, however historically they have a higher risk than other modifications
  • A more technical reasoning can be attributed to the enhanced Switch telemetry. I don't have much reason to doubt this as this comes straight from the developers who blew this thing wide open and let us all hack the console in the first place. Also, there are a lot of things we still don't know about the console as its only been a year since it was released and there has only been one "banwave" if you can call it that.
  • From a legal perspective, Nintendo reserves the right to protect their products and services however they see fit since we are the ones who agreed to their Terms of Service. If you don't like them, do not use their services/products. As such, they can implement additional checks within their products/services that allow them to enforce the rules regardless if you're online or offline. Of course, you must be online for the rules to be enforced but staying offline mimics a ban.
Anyway, further discussion of this is off-topic and not conducive to this thread. For everyone using this tool, they must surely be already aware of the risks involved. For people apprehensive, an installer made by TX would be much safer than using DevMenu but still not 100% safe.
