Hi Guys

I have a bunch of games in the app format and cant figure out how to install them.
On my old modded 3ds (which I can find atm) I was able to install these games with ease, with I think FBI app, but I am not 100% on this as it was a long time ago.

Could someone please shed some light on this, has the feature to install app files with FBI app been remove, or what am I doing wrong?

Thanks a lot!

You need to use GodMode9 to convert them to CIA files. You should download CIA files in the future so you don't have to do the conversion step.

Thanks for a quick reply.
So, there is no way of quick installing them?
Why do I think they way I used to install them required no conversion?

So with godmode 9, I see ppl converting from 3ds format to cia?
How about app to cia, is there a tutorial for this?
I tried this last night, but could not figure it out myself.

Thanks

You never installed .app files, so I don't know what you did before.

To convert them, open GodMode9, select NCCH image options... > Build CIA from file.

Thanks for your help

When I enter godmode app, and navigate to the folder which contains the game, I see 3 files
00000.app
00001.app
title.tik
title.tmd

If I then select any of the 4 files I get on the bottom screen

Show in hexeditor
calculate SHA-256
Show file info
Copy to gm9

Where do I find the build from cia file option?

Thanks

Ok, I figured I have to select title.tmd file then it shows me build from cia option.

However it then throws an error saying no title key found.

Do you have seeddb.bin and encTitleKeys.bin in gm9?

I have managed to generate a seedd.bin on my 3ds.

However title keys.bin is impossible to find?

Step 1
Open GodMode9 by holding Start on bootup (if you have more then 1 payload, then the Luma Chainloader menu will appear and you just select GodMode9 from there)

Step 2
Once in GodMode9, press the Home Menu Button then go to More... -> Build Support Files and press A on the prompt.

Step 3
Navigate to SD -> gm9 -> out and you will see you now have a encTitleKeys.bin file.

Thanks very much for you help.
This has worked and I have generated the keys.bin file, decTitleKeys.bin file and seeddb.bin file.

Still when I try to build cia for streets of rage 3d I get an error no title keys found?

Do I need to copy the keys from the out folder to \gm9\support ?
I did that, but still get the no key found error.

Again, many thanks.

Go to GodMode9, then press R+A on [A:] to view its drive options, then select the "Search for titles" option, then select your title and select the "TMD file options" option, then select the "Build CIA (standard)" option.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
