I made it the universal way, all the troubles are from windows drivers developers not following recommendations. I physically can't check every and each hardware and driver pair. If you have a serious problem and can't find the solution in the thread, you should use PM. This thread is huge mostly just because I solved a number of user problems in it.

I'm having a bit of an annoying issue. My MAC can be changed, and sometimes nzone will do this... and sometimes it doesn't. Might try nzone reload and see if that fixes things.

However, my wireless card is a bit picky. When using the old macshift/mac cycling method with a batch file, I found that if I start the hostednetwork right after I change mac, my wireless card will [usually] never get an internet connection (and thus, neither will the virtual wifi). In the old batch file method, I added a 20 second delay between macshift and starting the hosted network, which allowed the wireless connection to get an IP, and then the shared virtual wifi would get a connection after starting.

Could I suggest the ability to specify such a delay with nzone? As it is, only once out of every 10-15 changes the of the mac with nzone will actually end up in a state where I have any internet connection.

Thanks! (Also, chrome and firefox both reaaaally like to block the download of nzone, and I know I probably don't have the latest, what's the trick to allowing the download to go through?)

Hey guys I'm back after being away for so long.

I can see that the method I made for Windows 7 & 8.1 is (pardon the pun) totally out the Window.

So I thought I'd have a crack at trying to Homepass with a router using DD-WRT, and if I have no luck i'll try NZone.

I found an old NETGEAR router WGR614-6VGUKS using the DD-WRT website it seems to be compatible....not to sure.

Trouble is i've never flashed a router, anyone got any links to a video for it....Sorry about the n00bish question...lol
There has to be the version or revision of the router on it or on the box. What is it? v8, WW or L?

Here's the back of it. I accessed it and it states its WGR614v6 as in version 6? By that logic I'm guessing it might not be possible with this router.

Any help is appreciated at all as I still haven't figured out how I'm going to network all this together yet..lol

-------------------------------------

Update Google is your friend:

I'm guessing this NETGEAR is unfortunately a no go.

Pulled this information from DD-WRT on the list of incompatible:
Brand Model Number Hardware revision Serial number
or FCC-ID
Additional notes
Netgear WGR614 v6 PY305100002
1MB Flash! (Note: some v6 may have 2MB)

Nope I've just checked all of those out, not one of them is compatible with the router. I'm not sure if the Mini version of DD-WRT for version 8 of this router would possibly work though. There are some success stories on the forums at DD-WRT of people getting Version6 to work with the Mini version.

That's too bad... You can try, but be sure to know how to recover. I was very paranoid, but now I have two DD-WRT routers. :-)

Not sure I want to risk it if I'm honest. I'm looking at the crappy routers my ISP have provided me over the years the Livebox, Livebox 1.2 and the Brightbox.

All I know is the Livebox's we're based on Thompson tech, considering there limited ability's I doubt I could write DD-WRT on them anyway.

I was looking at this on eBay:

Buffalo-AirStation-WHR-HP-G54-Wireless-Router-DD-WRT-STD-or-VPN-Installed

But I know I've got an old ASUS router kicking around somewhere so going to try and find that first.

The other problem I've got is my network setup.

Can anyone help me with my network setup?

* My home router = (Family thing so cant do much to it) [Capable of multiple SSID's on 2.4 & 5ghz)
(Ethernet cabled to a switch. This is an un-managed 5 port switch not PPPOE)
(Switch receives my internet connection and my computer connects there)

I added the switch so I could test the other router. As I'm not sure I could set up a directly secure guest network from the family router over wireless so as to bridge the network(as its an ISP provided one) I was going to use the switch to manage the DD-WRT router instead.

Will this configuration actually work?

Or you can try one of those dongles which would certainly be cheaper if you don't need a router for any other reason

Would you mind elaborating a bit more? Which WiFi dongle are you referring too?

I've got a little USB WiFi Network card that I could make a hotspot using Windows, but that means I'm restricted to Nzone then because there isn't any other way as I've only got Windows. And I want to be able to control which MAC's I would like to use. Nzone cant do that.

Cheers

On Windows, the easy way is use something that can mount an open access point, which could be a router or any of the usb wifi adapters (like Asus USB-N13) that do not rely on the built-in hostednetwork in Windows 7 or later.

If you are able to dump the necessary files, you can also spoof the password protected AP (which is what nzone.exe is doing anyway)

So if I was to use the Asus USB-N13 dongle you've suggested, because its got its own built in AP software and doesn't rely on Windows 8.1 in regards to the access point, I should be able to Macspoof by changing its MAC through say the command prompt with windows and I could just turn security off on the AP broadcast, and then easily disable the device after the Pass has been received.

Or am I totally out the ball park here...lol?

Yes, that's the rough idea

So....can I just confirm before I sink £20 into one of these adapters...lol

Running Windows 8.1

New ASUS adapter. With custom firmware allowing me to create my own hotspot without any wireless security.

If that is the case I should be able to use any SSID relevant from the Spreadsheet such as attwifi and NZ@McD1 and use a simple program like Macshift to change the MAC / spoof the MAC address?

And run.....sort of simple to my guide I did last time only this time no security and laying down network addresses, but using a dongle with custom AP.

Sorry if this all seems rather noobish from me but I'm having one of these days...lol

Hello all :)
I try to use the trick to have more streetpass, I think in my town we are approx 10 people with a 3DS ^^ And we don't have nintendo zone.

I've for my local network a computer with a pfsense installed. I buy a wireless card atheros chip (recommended from pfsense supported hardware ), capable of hostap and all stuff I need. Before I want to replace my netgear AP (wn604 - so ne dd-wrt yet), but I keep my netgear AP for my regular wifi, and I try to use my wireless card into pfsense to do my Nzone.

I pass on the pfsense not relevant stuff, I do a wifi config, with the interface in "access point" mode, no security (I'll do mac filtering after), and I bridged wifi interface and lan interface.
I can connect and navigate with this AP, with my phone, or the 3ds.
I use NZ@McD1 so, the nzone icon is there, and I can search for services, but it requiere firmware upgrade.

On pfsense, mac spoof is easy as fill a field.
When I check the interfaces status I have :

Code:
WIFI interface (opt3, ath0)
Status up
MAC address 4e:53:50:4f:4f:46
IPv6 Link Local    fe80::2ed0:5aff:fe3f:d0eb
MTU 1500
Media autoselect mode 11ng <hostap>
Channel 7
SSID NZ@McD1
BSSID 38:aa:3c:d1:45:2d
Rate 18M
RSSI 12.0
In/out packets 132/2067 (33 KB/680 KB)
In/out packets (pass) 132/2067 (33 KB/680 KB)
In/out packets (block) 100/7 (24 KB/632 bytes)
In/out errors 2/267
Collisions 0
Bridge (bridge0) learning

So, the mac look right, the network is ok, but I don't have any other streetpass than my childs and wife console (yes we are a player family ^^)

I read the tuto, I try before with my laptop, but I've been confronted to the ubuntu bug, and my laptop wireless adapter is a failure.

I try to spoof mac of the lan interface as well (it's the bridge wifi+lan) thinking perhaps with the bridge, the mac exposed was not the AP mac, but the bridge one.
I try with another mac, to have 2 different mac on bridge and AP (I'm not a network specialist, but the bridge process use mac adress to bridge I think - if I correctly understand what I've read about ^^)

So to resume :
1 - I've ap with no protection, dhcp, ssid = NZ@McD1
2 - the Nzone icone glow, and I can access to nzone
3 - I don't have another streetpass than usual
4 - I don't have any wifi configuration in my 3ds
5 - I have New 3ds 9.0 eu and I use it with emunand same version (with GW)

That's all, I try to understand what I'm missing, new 3ds particularity ? (but my child have O3ds and it's the same for us - both old firmeware 6.3 and 4.5), I understand NZ@McD1is better than attwifi because it activate the nzone and streetpass, correct ?
I don't have to setup the ap network in the 3ds to have the streetpass ? (I read here, even with protection, streetpass can occur, but no nzone)

Thank's a lot, I need more mii to help me :D

I'm not familiar with pfSense, but you might be changing the wrong option. I believe the "BSSID" field needs to be changing to the spoofed MAC address in order for HomePass to work properly. It is my understanding that the BSSID is the MAC address "seen" by the 3DS and any other client, so if you can find the option that changes that, it might be what you need to get it running. Though, I'm not a network engineer either. Still, I hope that helps.

I didn't know !
But it seem's your right, I take a quick look at : http://www.juniper.net/documentatio...topics/concept/wireless-ssid-bssid-essid.html
I'll read that with more attention (after the cofee ^^) and try to find a way to override the bssid

OKKKKKK ! It's all good, I manage to set the mac and bssid as I want, and it is not a "normal" action in pfsense. I'll try to explain step to step, but I can't cycling, I think it's possible, but it's not easy. I think it's lot easier to use debian based cycling stuff, but I've pfsense, and after all, it's just mind sport ^^

[Miniguide for pfsense]
* first, it's not a good thing to use pfsense to do that, perhaps there is a way, but for now I don't touch more. If you restart your pfsense, you have to spoof mac again.

1 - have running pfsense with lan and wan, and dhcp on lan (in the dhcp config you can add mac filter to have minimal security - not tested yet)
2 - buy wlan lan adapter capable of hostap (Here on google doc)
3 - add your card
4 - Config your network card as an interface
5 - go to pfsense over ssh
6 - spoof your ath0 mac (on mine the card is ath0 and I've also a ath0_wlan0 - automatic virtual wireless ), spoof with
Code:
ifconfig ether xx:xx:xx:xx...(mac you choose)
7 - in the webconfigurator, go to Interface->assign, tab "wireless", do a new virtual wireless, as hostap, under Ath0 (now you can see spoofed mac)
8 - go to Interface->assign, and assign your new wireless virtual card to an interface (optX by dfault, let say opt1)
9 - Go to interface->OPT1 and enable it, set a name, set the SSID to NZ@McDall default are ok.
10 - you have to bridge LAN, WIFI (first interface assigned), and your last virtual wireless (not sure if the first Wifi interface is mandatory but it work's that way for me)
To bridge, follow this little guide on pfsense
12 - go to ssh spoof mac for the virtual wifi (ath0_wlan1 for me)
Code:
ifconfig ether MAC // just to be sure
ifconfig BSSID MAC
11 - ?????
12 - profit ^^

Hello everyone and thanks for the wonderful guides.

I've manage to set up my homepass over an unsecured network (yay!) using the Sanoxy walkthough, but I'm having trouble getting streetpasses once I set up my WPA2 PSK security. I've played around and still no luck. My setting are below. Has something changed recently that prevents security from being enabled, since the guide says I just need to set it up and add a connection to the network on my 3DS (Connection test was successful). Any suggestions for troubleshooting are much appreciated. I'm getting tired of having to unplug it from my router.

On a side note, once I've got this figured out I'd like to try cycling the MAC addressees automatically. Could anyone recommend a good method for doing this using my Sanoxy setup.

Thanks a ton!

If your 3DS is above 9.2, you can't use security. As for automatic MAC cycling, try DD-WRT! ;)

Unfortunately, you can't enable WPA security if you want to get streetpasses. However, to enable a form of "security", you should be able to set up a MAC access control list on your repeater and set it to allow only your 3DS's MAC to connect.

Oh.. that means I can't use a virtual network from windows anymore, right? There you must enter a password..
