How to get sims 2 working on wine?

My little brother dug up my old sims 2 CDs, and is begging to try it, but the old potato of a laptop that I used to play it on no longer works. I have used wine on my mac before, but not with games. I tried to install it on wine, but upon launching It says I need to insert the CD, which it will not recognize. I tried to mount the cd or an iso of the CD in the wineconfig, to no avail. I downloaded several no-CD patches and tried them, but it always says I need the one of the CD's. Have any of you guys managed to get sims 2 working on Wine? If you have, please tell me everything on how you did it.

I don't have the game (girlfriend loved/loves it, though). I presume you checked the winhq page on the sims 2?

I must say it doesn't look good. Even considering some entries are years (and several wine versions) old, anything below silver level rarely becomes enjoyable to play... :unsure:
Yeah, after some research, I think It might be better just to use a VM
