The homebrew channel installs itself on the Wii memory. But the installation is very stable and safe, no risk of bricking there.
Most normal applications just run from SD card and don't do anything to the Wii memory, so that's all safe too

Just to clarify though, is the Twilight Hack still needed with the latest version of the Homebrew channel installer?

If so, i might just wait for Bootmii.

Yes. You'll need the twilight hack to install the homebrew channel. Or if you have a modchip and firmware below 3.3, you may also use the iso disc. But the process is the same, it will install onto the wii itself.
Waiting for bootmii is not really necessary for brickproofing, the installation of the channel is really very safe.

haha great guide, but im having problems. i think its my SD cause ive done everything ive everything like you said. Heres whats up.

1gb micro sd lexar

formatted on my mac book pro. when i put something on the card it takes memory space away( the free space available counter goes down. like usual) but then i take the files back of my card, the space isnt freed up, it just keeps going down when i add stuff. wtf? i guess i need a new card i guess.

OSX keeps the trash files on the memory card
Empty your trash and you'll get the space back

Well i believe in the safety of the channel now, its just that i don't own the Zelda game and i do not have anyone to borrow it from.

Sure its not much of a hassle to go and rent it, but im not that desperate just yet.

Got my homebrew channel up and running. Everything seems to be ok so far...lol. The only thing that won't work is the snes9x emulator, when I try to run it I get the 'not a valid application' message.
Is this because the boot file is a .elf? Can I fix this problem by just changing the file to a .dol? Also will this work with other apps that have a .elf boot that get the same error? Thanks!

Is true that if you put a file of another region by accident on the SD card the wii can brick?

Nice Guide!

anyways, I want to perform the homebrew mod/twilight hack/backup loader mod.

my question is, what is the order of operation for doing all this? also, my wii is currently up to date with updates, so what is that october 23 fix and should i be worried about it before i install the hacks? thanks in advance.

I am a total idiot and 1/2 way to nowhere so hopefully you all can help me please

I have a 3.2U Wii, Did the Twilight Hack and got Homebrew channel. I installed the cIOS's needed and WADManager 1.3 and even the down grader. Everything was fine. I played MLB08 and Tiger Woods Golf with no problems, SSX Blue did not work. Somewhere I read that I can upgrade and still have everything working so like an idiot, I did.

First thing that happened is that Backup Loader 0.3 beta stopped working, got some garbled screen. No biggie, I just downgrade which I did. Now my Wii is back to 3.2U (It went to 3.3).

Did that, no dice, didn't work. I got frustrated and started to remove everything I loaded, I just wanted to start over again. Well, Homebrew is still there but when I click on it, it just comes back to home screen. Backup Loader gives me same error as before.

Should I just start from the beginning again with the Twilight Hack and use Gamma instead of Beta?

Thanks in advance. I really do not want to break my wife's Wii (if Guitar Hero does not work, that is my ass).

Hello.

I should need some help. I've tried to install the new TP-hack v 3.4, but it won't work. Is it some new boot.elf-file I need, or what can be wrong?
