Hacking How to get codes to work with Neogamma R8 b7

trying to help my friend over AIM get a code to work to unlock everything in Brawl but every option under "Ocarina On" gives him a fugly screen and returns to the Wii Menu when he tries to launch the game from his external hard drive

any tips?

What do you have set for the hook type? If it's set to None, that's why. Set it to VBI and enable Ocarina and save the config.
