I've had this sort of thing happen before. Even in my years of fixing computers I've never been able to fix a Windows install except by sheer accident. Microsoft's diagnostic and repair tools are hot dog shit. Prettymuch all you can do is run SFC and cross your fingers.

This is why it's Windows tradition to reinstall every time there's a minor inconvenience, and why I use Linux.
