I had been burning my ISO's at 2x with my internal drive and the game were running perfect... but as this drive became problematic, I got an external Samsung 16x drive, that is a great piece of hardware.

The only problem is that now Nero only allows to burn at a lower speed of 4x on my HP 16x discs, but I'd like to write at 2x because some games are starting to show problems when burning at 4x.

Does anyony know how to set a lower speed than those ones offered by default?

One more thing: when I use slower discs, as Memorex 8x, I can burn at 2x, but I want to use those HP 16x.

I downloaded and was to try the first disk, but when I put the DVD+R disk it is written, among other things:

    "
    Supported Write Speeds: 4x; 8x; 12x; 16x
    "

If I choose Write: "2x" at the lower combo list, may I lose my disk or generate a not-whole-readable disk?

    Thanks in advance.

Why don't you just try it? The worst that will happen is you waste one inexpensive disc.

its not always better to burn at a lower speed, u need to take into account
    your dvd burner,
    how fast your comp is,
and what media u are burning to
, ive always burnt my games at 8x and have had 2 DRE's so far, after about 2 months

I burn at 16x, and none my games have ever had a DRE. Anything below 4x is just pointless.

This is normally the time when someone says it may be a wise idea to drop some cash on a spindle of nice (cheap) discs.

A very few of the firmware hacks change burning speed (normally add to it and/or enable +/- burning though), a place to start is here:
    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php
    and
    http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Reviews/Home.aspx
this being said the drives support forum is probably a better start.
