Minus the Fighters.

Probably because the DS has an utter shit fighting library.

Even then, I wouldn't say the 3DS fighting library is any better than the PSPs.
I assume you guys are talking about Fighting games?

IMO handhelds are simply not suitable for games like SF or Tekken.
My 3DS condition.. well lets just say its not too well after playing a little bit of SSFIV.

I'm assuming this is why DOA has combos placed on the touch screen. Button-mashing = tear and wear, I agree.

I don't agree with the fact that Fighters don't belong on handhelds though. They just have to be developed differently - you can't exactly pull off a 20-button combo while riding a shaky bus.

As far as the 3DS marketing is concerned, I don't know what kind of people say it's a DS with 3D capabilities, but maybe it's best they don't buy the system. They might eat it... or something. The media campaign here is basically non-existant and people still see the difference since most stores line up DS Lite's, DSi's and 3DS'es with their respective games within the sample so the customer can pick and choose which one is for him/her.

I highly doubt Nintendo were holding back for more surprises at E3. (They have cafe for that, why sabotage game sales for 3DS too?)
E3 isn't some premium thing where they can make a shittonne of money and it doesn't generate a lot of public interest outside of internet user gamers (the typical teenager doesn't watch believe it or not.)

It's funny how people complain on the price of the 3DS and they don't even think of what the price for the NGP may be lol xD
And what happened to all the "SONY SHOULD BURN!" guys? o.O

The difference here is that the NGP's price is justified - it's packed with more gadgets than it needs and the hardware specs are amazing. The 3DS is mediocre at best - you're paying for the Nintendo label.

I have yet to see a fighting game being played by someone while "relaxing".
You are bound to get frustrated and excited to the max and mash the buttons as hard as you can.
It woudnt be much of a worry when it comes to controllers, because they can be replaced, but the handheld is a one piece thing.. prone to break easily.

It seems (from my experience) the people who think it's only a DS with 3D added are parents, i had to show my parents my console before they realised what my brother was asking for was not just another DS.

And of course a huge segment of the DS sales were for children, if the parents think the 3DS is not adding anything other than 3D (which they are now likely scared of due to the stupid negative PR) they're not going to buy it for their kid who already has a DS/Lite/i/XL

Nintendo needs to send out a message that this is a brand new system, and stop with these stupid "wow face 3D look!!!111!!" adverts thats tells you nothing about the system other than it's 3D and will cost you twice that of a DS Lite.

You could say the same thing for shooters or every single multiplayer competitive game on the planet - they're also not entirely made to relax and yet we relax as we play them. As far as the breaking apart is concerned, a handheld is supposed to have sufficient built quality to withstand that. I have a lot of handhelds and not one broke down (minus 1 DS which had a factory flaw and was returned to the store). That said, I do play fighters on them.

How can people not get it confused with the last generation. Nintendo came out with DS, DS lite, DSi, DSi XL, all which look the same, and had essentially the same commercials for them. The 3DS looks no different than the DSi. Maybe DSL but the 3DS has those two little dots on the cover.

Easily. They're different systems. I don't know how customer service looks like where you live, but here, you won't stand idle for 5 minutes without the vendor explaining to you in detail what is what as soon as you show at least the least bit of interest. Moreover, DS and DSi lines are completely different products and you can see that on first glance. The 3DS is no exception - you can see that there are two cameras rather than one, the GUI is different, there is clearly an analog slider there... when you see the sample playing a game in Demo Mode, you can TELL, really. Even a typical parent can.

#2

You can't avoid comparisons to the NGP. It's the 3DS's upcomming competitor, why are you so scared of mixing it into the discussion? It's entirely on-topic as long as the post has a good point to put across.

I think nintendo has some of the dumbest commercials, especially the ones where it's just people holding the 3DS and laughing.
the only good 3DS commercial was SFIV.

Good point! lol
They always make similar commercials.

Pretty accurate.
It feels to me that Nintendo is continuously shooting this new device in the foot every time they open their mouths.

QUOTE(ecko @ Jun 4 2011, 12:43 AM) crap lineup of games gave it a rough start imo

That's it! Nintendo is pushing the 3rd parties and what do they do? Nothing!
So Nintendo has to save the 3DS. When Mario Kart 3D is relesed i have to have one.

I defiantly regret buying the 3DS on launch. What with he wobbly hinge and lack of games. I havent used it in over a month.
Yep me too, I still love it, but haven't played it for a month, and it's likely to stay that way until good affordable games come out, or the console is hacked. Hacking not even so much for the games, but for emulators and home brew.

E3 is gamer-christmas.
We may not get presents, but we wake up at 5am to unwrap the conference streams.

They held back on the "surprises" of 3D Video content, and Mii's and a bunch of pretty pisspoor things for months.

DS was new and different.
3DS is DS + motion + S3D + Graphics.
None is new, none are different.
At least the PS3P will have super hardware and Sony will at the very least embrace the iCulture of streaming OD Video at launch, games games games, and cheap(ish) application downloads.
I dislike Sony as a company, but I think they have this one unless Nintendo get their fingers out of their... ears.

What the PSP really lacked was a touch screen and a marketing towards "late teens AND younger crowds" rather than just the "general gamer". The DS was conscidered a console for everyone, a PSP was not. Sony's doing all it can to pack NGP with modern perhaptial that will enhance "casual gaming" capabilities. Not only that, the titles so far are lookin' great, which is more than I can say for the current 3DS line-up. It will also get more attention from the developers due to really good "guts" it has - programming for it will simply be easier without worrying about "efficiency" of the code.

The 3DS will have to pull off some crazy Cafe-Connectivity stuff to stay afloat, otherwise they'll go pretty much head-to-head. We'll see how Sony's going to handle their presentation this year, but I'm optimistic.

I agree with the first post, ALL that were the exact reasons why my excitement for the 3DS died down pretty fast..especially the extremely poor choice in games...well hopefully the ACTUAL release of LoZ will change that..and many more games to come?...
