I found a few on craigslist and they advertise them as psp fat, psp slim, and etc.I want to know which is the newest version and what types of other ones are out there.

2a) PSP 2000 (Oldest model, can use and create Pandoras i.e. fully hackable)
2b) PSP 2000 (Old model, can use but not create Pandoras so still hackable)
2c) PSP 2000 TA088v3+ (Newest model of PSP 2000, not fully hackable, can only run temp CFW on 5.03)
3a) PSP 3000 (Older models, only temp hackable under 5.03)
3b) PSP 3000 (Newer models have a new motherboard, they don't come with 5.03 as standard so cannot be hacked at all. Hard to know whether they will ever be)
4) PSP N1000 (PSP Go) Completely unhackable though the latest save exploits have run on these.

So far, no-one has actually answered your question.

The PSP (fat, phat) is the PSP-1000 model. It's significantly thicker, and also has less onboard memory than the models that came after it. Beyond some issues with homebrew software (because of the decreased memory), it does everything the later models can do. It is also hackable via pandora battery no matter what version of the firmware is installed.

The PSP (slim) refers to the PSP-2000 model. As explained above, there are multiple variations of the -2000, so be careful if you're attempting to get one for custom firmware. The only flat-out guaranteed hackable -2000 is the silver model from the Daxter pack. You can use the pandora battery no matter what version of the firmware is installed on it, just like the fat model. There was a bump in internal on-board memory, but beyond that it's simply slimmer and lighter than the -1000.

The PSP (slim & lite) refers to the PSP-3000 model. It has a different screen than the previous two models (increased colour range, brighter, higher contrast ratio, improved pixel response time, etc), as well as a built in microphone, redesigned buttons and UMD tray, and an anti-reflective coating to improve visibility in sunlight. You cannot install custom firmware on it like the early -2000 and all -1000 models. You can only have a temporary custom firmware running, and only if your -3000 is on original firmware 5.03. If it's higher than 5.03, there is no way to downgrade and you're stuck with original UMD discs only.

(slim) can refer to both the -2000 and the -3000, so be sure you know which one that you want!

There is also the PSP Go, a major revision that removes the UMD drive (purchase from PSN only). It adds 16GB of internal memory, bluetooth, and the most kick-ass screen out of all the models, even though it is slightly smaller in size, it still retains the same resolution. Beyond a very small homebrew hack, you are unable to play pirated games on it at all.

PSP 2000 is the Slim & Lite. There are many guaranteed hackable special editions - Daxter, Simpsons, Crisis Core, God of War, Vader etc...The 2000 has a better battery life, better screen, additional RAM (as mentioned above) TV out, no IR Port and better D-Pad.

PSP 3000 is the Slim & Brite. Other than that the above is good.

No.The PSP 2000 was optimised, and if you can get yourself a Phat battery then you can squeeze even more of an advantage out of the Slim consoles.

That's quite odd. My friend's battery must be going bad or something, his slim gets the same battery life as my Phat.

Tell your friend to get himself a phat battery and a replacement cover and he'll see a couple more hours use than you too.

We can kind of hack them. Read, "save exploits have run on these". There is no HEN other than the Team Typhoon one which got blocked in 10 seconds and definitely no CFW. Its not exactly hackable if you can only run small homebrew apps.

A small homebrew could be the key.
I don't even know if they are attempting to hack one.
Or simply waiting for the psp2, or whatever they name it.
