Soo many, I started with Gundam, Fist of the North Star and Vampire Hunter D/Ninja Scroll hooked me. Although, I have never been a fan of (please don't attack me) Dragonball.

I've lost track. I've been watching Anime since it came over here back in the early 90s. Hell, just binged Cyberpunk EdgeRunners, after watching episode 2 of The Witch From Mercury, lol :D

In like 1988 I bought Akira (VHS-tape, English subtitles) from amazon USA, it tooks weeks to get here and cost a fortune. Dragon Ball Z was one of the first series I watched, one of the few series available on TV around here back then.

Germany
hard to count:
germany had lots of anime while growing up during the during the 80s (maya the honeybee, moomin, heidi, wickie, world masterpiece theater, captain future, alice in wonderland) and 90s (so much on tele 5 like queen millennia, robin hood, more WMT)
in the 90s came the big hit movies Akira, Ghost in the Shell & ninja scroll (and tape imports) also Evangelion which is horribly overhyped
the turn of the century brought me to Studio ghibli and fansubs via the internet which led to total oversaturation
i think the beginning of the end of my anime-heavy time was seeing DBZ on german tv (we watched it everyday)

I am re-watching, under the pretext of introducing them to my young son, some masterpieces of Japanese animation from the 1980s.
1) By the mythical author Gō Nagai, Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger, Steel Jeeg, Getter Robo/Getter G, Devilman/Devil Lady, Cutey Honey;
2) By the legendary Rumiko Takahashi, Urusei Yatsura, Maison Ikkoku;
3) By the great Yoshiyuki Tomino, MS Gundam, Z Gundam, ZZ Gundam and more recent Turn A Gundam and Double X Gundam;
4) By the memorable Masami Kurumada, Saint Seiya from the first series until the Hades saga.

Instead I watched alone, being violent genres, Hokuto no Ken and Berserk, both series and movies.😉
in italy did you ever see "La Balena Giuseppina"

Kujira no Josephina
The original Japanese version is nowhere to be found.

Only a handful of the spanish dub episodes survived.

The only complete version of the anime was the Italian dub that was recorded by an Italian on a vcr and uploaded it YouTube

HI. I remember watching some occasional episode as a child, but I preferred the action anime, and then I didn't like the style of the drawings. I remember the whale that came out of the glass, the sweetness of the theme song and the melancholy of some episodes (grandmother's death); anyway I couldn't appreciate it at the time. 🤷

Here you can find all the episodes, also in high definition, in italian language.. But pay attention to the numerous popups (including porn), but with a little patience you will be able to download them: https://toonitalia.green/la-balena-giuseppina/

I am pleasantly surprised that you know about. I learned about it because my mom had told me about it.
Thank you for the site I will check it out.

I wish they Spanish version was available. I hope that they can redub it, I don't know if a fandub or AI or something.
